The whole church was light and bright because it has three very large doors which are open to the outside. It has been beautifully restored particularly some of the medieval frescoes. A welcoming place which invites photography and where you can rest from the heat and reflect.

I was surprised to find such a nice church in a tiny place like Arqua Petrarca.I loved the old frescos. They are selling a very good city guide in English and in German too for 7 euro.

We stopped by Arqua Petrarca on a tip from friends in Padua, and enjoyed this small village, and especially this beautiful church. We didn't learn the history until we came home though. It is truly worth a visit, not far from the main road (if we found it, you can too!)

This 1000 year old church is typical for its style and conforms to the scale of its village. The interior is of interest and Petrarch is buried. Petrarch's tomb features a rose Verona marble arch.
