We took the dirt road off the Takaka Hill Highway to Harwoods Hole track, which is right at the base. The drive in is slow and a bit bumpy (roughly 11km), although plenty doing it with a smaller car or camper van, unlike our small...More

This place really is like walking through the lord of the rings (I am pretty sure parts of it were filmed here?!) anyway, it’s a remarkable place to really experience the wonders of nature. Be sure to take good shoes as the hiking trail is...More

Needs 30 mins to reach the car park _ only 11km distance but the road is terrible. Another 30mina out and 1-2 hours walking. So require up to 3 hours to see this hole. Nearly half day is gone. Won't recommend if you have a...More

Wow, what an incredible place. The walk in is beautiful and very easy until the last 400 metres. Then it's a tough slog but well worth it. Has to be seen to do it justice.

About a 40 minute trek from the parking lot through woods that resemble some sort of movie scene. Moss covered tree trunks, dead limbs, sparse vegetation, somewhat eerie. The trek is simple at first but soon follows a streambed that has large boulders and requires...More

A lovely 40 minute walk takes you to Harwood's Hole. The trach is initially gentle through beech forest but towards the hole you thread between smooth limestone rocks. The hole is 170m sheer and it is not easy to see down. Be very careful. Just...More

Amazing walking track through a beech forest, with stunning rock formations around the hole. The carpark based campsite is spacious with well maintained toilets. Small fee applies for campers.

Starting with a wonderful shady native bush walk the track into Harwoods Hole is like a scene out of the Lord of the Rings movie, actually part of it was filmed up there. About 45 min walk into the hole with the last section being...More

Really really enjoyed this walk on a level track with only some rocks to negotiate towards the end. The beech forest is so lovely and the hole, although there is not really so much to see, is amazing nevertheless. The drive in was tricky, but...More

The drive in is well worth it. This is a great walk through beech forest and fantastic rock formations. Our teenage daughters who weren't that interested beforehand absolutely loved it and were pleased we made them do it too!
