If you are driving on Strada Statale (SS) 1 Via Aurelia, make a stop here. Close by has been etruscan harbour some thousands years ago. There is also small naval history museum. Next to the castle there is nice and popular beach.

This is a very impressive complex. However, I would delay any visit if the castle itself is not open for any reason. There is an unbelievable amount of info to absorb, however, it is only in Italian. Two cafe's at the site.
