From Bahia Solano we set off in a small boat towards the national park. Along the coast, there is a beautiful view of the rough Pacific Ocean and the mountains of the national park shrouded in mist. After a thirty-minute ride through the rain and rough waves, we reached the lagoons of the national park. We were kindly welcomed there by a ranger who explained the flora and fauna of the park, the urgency of his work and that of his colleagues, and the conditions of the park. We took a circular route and hiking trail through the mystical park, which, apart from its untouched nature, is also impressive for its enormous biodiversity and beauty. Every July to October, humpback whales make their way from the northernmost part to the southernmost part of the continent to raise their calves. They feel particularly protected in the lagoons of the national park and offer visitors a wonderful spectacle with their leaps through the water. The park is also located in one of the rainiest regions in the world with the highest biodiversity and home of thousands of different species. The park offers a variety of hiking routes that wind through the mountains and valleys. I would definitely recommend a longer stay. I hope that places like this will continue to exist in the future and that humans will manage to coexist with nature in harmony and respect.

If you want to scape from routine, noise, stress and want to enjoy of nature and a perfect view of the Bahia, with marvelous green mauntains and calm water; you have to go to the Bahia de Utria in Choco-Colombia
And if you visit this beautiful place between June and September you have the possibility of watching amazing whales!
There are also trekking options
The eco lodge is beautiful with very comfortable rooms and beautiful people from the zone that will make everything to make you feel at home.

If you visit the Pacific coast please go to Utria; Josefina Klinger who's the manager has done a remarkable work at this place and will provide an excellent service; unlike most restaurants in Nuqui, you will find quality food at Utria; also they offer other activities as kayaking and snorkeling, not to mention the unforgettable experience of whale watching; as Josefina says: Utria is the whale's delivery room.

The entrance to the park costs 38,000 COP for foreigners (14,000 COP for Colombians) and there is only a 900 meters platform over the Mangroves that you can walk onto! There is another path that supposedly takes 8 - 10 hours to walk but the guide told us we couldn't go there because it is a military area!
To get to the park, you also have to pay 60,000 COP for a lancha, that also bring you to "playa blanca", a grey tiny beach full of plastic bottles. We had lunch there, 15,000 COP for three deep (deep deep deep) fried pieces of fish, a patacon a some rice.
Snorkeling is really not amazing, there is no corals, no colors and very little fish...
And they do not rent snorkels....
Maybe it's nicer during whale season.
Instead of the park, I recommend going to TERMALES and staying at Refugio Salomon. The beach in Termales is much nicer, bigger and cleaner, and there is a beautiful hike to a waterfall (Los 4 encantos), where you can also see some cute little very poisonous frogs!
And we saw whales there, way after the season was over. So Termales is THE place to stay if you visit Choco!

Utria is one of the most biodiverse places on earth. Life is exuberant. Her you can see whales and dolphins, snorkel and hike. You will learn about mangroves and hike across an incredibly biodiverse peninsula. And in doing so you will be helping the women led organization Mano Cambiada to promote community-based tourism.

Difficult to access park. They have an educational centre where you will get a chat from a trainee. Not really of any value. the walk around the entrance of the park is on a raised on platform through the mangrove swamp. You will not see much.

As a TripAdvisor DESTINATION EXPERT for Colombia, with 30 years of visits and now living 4 years in Medellin, and exploring just about every city & pueblo both large and small - it is my pleasure to provide my experiences of Parque Nacional Natural Utria.

A visit to this park and the north Pacific coast of Colombia has been on my radar for some years so pulled the trigger and just came to enjoy and so glad I did.

As I live in Medellin the flight to Nuqui took about an hour. I arranged a boat the following days to get me from Nuqui to Utria and the boat ride took a little over an hour.

If your anywhere near the Utria park or the northern Pacific coast of Colombia for that matter I suggest that you visit.

The cost for entry into the park is 56,000 pesos and this gives you access to walking the wooden path bridge and circling back around to the beach then you return to the dock. We spent a good hour with our guide and truly enjoyed the fish and animals we encountered along with walking the beaches.

Take a look at some of my photos, there are countless photo opportunities everywhere you look.

Absolutely enjoyed the visit and walk and highly recommend for any person who loves nature, this place is special in it's own right.

This place is full of diversity. Utria Park is for nature lovers. Mano Cambiada foundation manage a Hostel there offering confortable room's with basic services. There is a also a small restaurant with local delicious food. If you want to rediscover yourself, Ensenada de UtrĂa is the perfect place.

We went there as a day trip by boat from a hotel we stayed at on the coast south of Nuqui. It was nice, unfortunately no whales in the bay, but we did enjoy the white sand beach. The walking tour was nice -- hot! Not fantastic, but if you are in the area, good day trip.

We were on a cruise down the coast from Panama, Columbia to Ecuador and we went ashore by zodiac. There were a few options over the hours we stayed there, going to the beach, snorkelling, canoeing, but the best option in my view was to go along the boardwalk.

This is a raised walkway amongst the mangrove swamp. It has different levels of water at different times of year and we were in the dryer season. It is a really peaceful place and a great way to walk within the natural area. Takin a slow stroll you can easily spend 2 hours on the boardwalk. Looking at the different trees and plants, the birds, crabs and fish in the water and all the other things that nature has to offer in this amazing environment.
