The fortress is under reconstruction, and is impressiv standing at the edge of river Njestr. The small museum is somehow interesting, and the view from the walls and the towers is ok. You can easily spend an hour here, before or after visiting Tiraspol.

Me and friend visited the fortress as part of Oleg tours. It was very muddy and as others have mentioned the surrounding area is quite ugly with an abandoned factory and Transnistrian army tanks. The old Soviet factory just outside the fortress was very interesting....More

One and only thing to see in Bendery. Surrounded by ugly soviet buildings, this Turkish castle stands lonely.

The fortress has special connections to Swedes which had the late King Charles XII which spend 2 years just outside the fortress waiting for the turks to fight the Russians together. This is described in the Museum inside the fortress. Thanks to Transnisria tours it...More
