A shipwreck sits stoically on this stunning beach located on the northwest coast of Zakynthos. Surrounded by majestic bluffs, Navagio is accessible only by boat, and the journey there is an experience in itself. There is also a balcony atop the cliffs accessible by road from the village of Volimes that offers breathtaking views, particularly at sunset. There’s no way to reach the overlook from the beach, but there are boat tours that conveniently stop at both. The tiny white pebbles contrast beautifully with the clear azure waters, but they aren’t comfortable to walk on, so bring appropriate footwear. Part of a day trip for the family.
The kids loved the speed boat out to the beach.
It was packed, the boats had to queue to dump us off and then move out the way.
The beach area itself, it's not kept well. Full of fag butts, beer bottles, wrappers. The local council needs to get cleaners out there to clean it and enforce fines. It's such a shame. It's a stunning area and more people should visit.
The water is amazing to swimming in but so much engine petrol from the boats. You can smell it on your skin
The locals care more about the money now than the local environment

Been there on a private cruise with LuxurE Travel Zakynthos. Can honestly say I wouldn't have it either way as we seen the big boats carrying loads of tourists we were on our own and got there before the big crowds. At this point the beach is amazing.... you will see the bluest waters ever and can go explore the wreck itself..
The beach is about 100meters long but it can get really busy when big boats get there and loose its unique value... after all is the biggest highlight in zakynthos that's why I would recommend going there on a private cruise and as early as possible..

We went on the last TUI tour of the season during the last week of October. We travelled from Tsilivi which was a trip by coach to Porto Vromi. Then about a 25 min boat trip to the Shipwreck beach.
As we came around the corner of the cliffs and saw the cove for the first time, it took our breath away. It was absolutely stunning. The crystal clear blue water is just the colour you see on the postcards. The tall cliffs surrounding the cove make a very dramatic backdrop. We arrived mid morning and it was not too busy. Getting off the boat was interesting as you sink into the white teeny tiny pebbly ‘sand’. Beach shoes are recommended as it is not particularly comfortable under foot and flip flops really don’t cope well! You will get wet feet/legs leaving your boat.
The sea gets deep quickly from the beach but to swim in it was just incredible. It was so clear and felt really special. I wish I could have stayed swimming there for a lot longer.
Yes it is just a rusty metal shipwreck but we found it really fascinating to look at and walk around. For your own safety, stay to the centre of the beach away from the cliffs. It worried me to see people sitting right under them after seeing the 2018 cliff collapse online.
As we were leaving the beach around 11.30am, it was getting busier so I would definitely recommend visiting here early.
For us (early morning/end of season) the experience was well worth it and we are so glad we did this trip. Something to note at this particular time though is that the sun had not made it fully into the cove so take a jumper as it can be a little chilly. And don’t forget your drinking water and swim wear!

We pre-booked on this site and had great comms from Abba travel on the early Morning of our trip (at 12pm) they advised where to meet with photos and where to park our hire car all on WhatsApp.
The small cruise was about 50 people on a medium sized boat with no shade and hard seats.
We went past caves en route to the shipwreck beach with lots of photo opportunities.
The docking at the beach is fraught with danger and not for the faint hearted.
The boats nose up to the beach and you climb down the boats ladder on the bow (front) while it’s bouncing around in the surf.
The beach is busy 100% of the time.
We saw larger booze cruise vessels and similar sizes boats to ours along with tiny vessels docking all the time.
There was a “lifeguard” on the beach but in all reality he was a Marshall moving people out of the docking area in to the bouyed off swimming area.
The shelf of the beach is steep which allows the boats to nose in, it also means you need to be a medium to strong swimmer to cope in the water, there is strong surf and the surface of the beach is small stones which offer little purchase when standing or moving.
There is no shade on the beach - our trip included 1hr free time on the beach which was twice as much as we needed.
The fumes from other vessels and constant whistles and boats horns calling for their passengers depreciated from the outstanding beauty of this beach.
The USP of this beach is the rusting hulk from 1980, if it was removed and returned the beach to nature it would benefit immensely.
Our trip returned back to the port via the Blue caves - another natural spectacle, we anchored for 20 minutes and swam off the boat, mask & snorkel was essential to benefit from the abundance of fish that come out to the many captains bread pieces thrown out.
A short trip back to port made an enjoyable 3 hours for €20 each.

The tour was quite okay. The boat was filled with people but we were told to wear our masks at all times. The beach was lovely with electric blue waters but full of crowded people. Not sure of it's Covid friendly as my husband and I were the only ones wearin the masks on the beach. It's worth the visit but due to the pandemic, id be very careful. Btw it's just a beach with an old shipwreck filled with graffiti. Nothing great

We arrived by private boat around 10.30am. It was quite busy on the beach and in the water with crowds of tourists. As we got out of our boat a huge tour boat pulled in and dozens more visitors filled the small beach. It completely spoiled the atmosphere.
The beach was crowded and loads of people were swimming. You couldn’t go near the cliff walls due to bits falling so a man with a (almost constant) whistle was ordering people away - including the idiots in the water who swam to the cliff face. We witnessed bits really were dropping and at some force.
There was no pretence at social distancing whatsoever and no opportunity given the crowds.
I can see this would be a wonderful place if you were lucky enough to get there on a quiet sunny day. The water is wonderfully clear, blue and the beach and shoreline are bright white.
We passed by a couple of hours later and there seemed to be a queue of boats waiting to offload and load. Utter madness and not enjoyable I’m sure.
My tip: Take beach/swimming shoes. The white ‘sand’ is actually limestone pebbles and shale. It’s very very sharp underfoot and lots of people were really struggling. It’s not suitable for those with mobility issues!
Hire a small boat for a few hours and share the cost. There are a few other wonderful inlets and coves with stunning beaches just a few minutes away. We found one almost identical - without the shipwreck - and had an hour swimming in crystal clear water only a few minutes up the coast.
We loved that all the small boat skippers took time to collect floating plastic bottles and wrappers they came across. Ours was particularly annoyed with the hooligans on the big boat who flagrantly threw their rubbish overboard.

Don’t expect to view Shipwreck Beach like the postcard. It was heaving even with Covid-19.
Theodosis Cruises was a small boat (normal capacity 45 but in Covid, 20). The highlight was definitely the blue caves and the big school of fish at the entrance of the caves. This boat could nudge into one of the caves.
We paid 20 Euros each for a 3 hour trip which included 1 hour on Shipwreck Beach and a good 15 minutes snorkelling at the caves.

Wonderful place to go with private boat. Great service despite coming late, Porto Vromi Maries Cruises & fun accepted to take us to the Shipwreck.
Don't buy tickets to the vendor at the beginning of the road but directly at the harbour.

After having to go through a que of cars, you get to go in a que of people to get a (as we understood) a very poor angle to take a photograph.
We decided not to go for it because the line would take about 30 to 45min.
We found a small ledge left from the ‘official’ spot, and decided to go there to see if that would work better.
!! It’s not safe !! But man…. you get good photo’s from there!
If you think it is worth the effort it takes to stand in line for a while to get a decent photo at best, I would recommend coming early, around 9 a 10 o’clock.

Photos of Navagio beach are replicated so much that to come to Zakynthos and not get on it meant to acquire an unclosed gestalt for the rest of your life. The only problem is that the beach is in the northwest of the island, and the capital of the island, where we arrived by ferry, is in the southwest. And there are 80 kilometers between them. And in the evening of the next day we had to leave. It seemed, what is easier? Public transport? It is not very developed in Greece, and even less so in Zakynthos. From the city of Zakynthos to the village of Anafonitria nearest to the beach, a bus runs several times a week, where you can arrive in the middle of the day, but not return, because the beach is located at a distance of 5 km from the village. I didn't have a driver's license at that time, and I didn't want to pay 150 euros for a taxi. It remained to repeat the feat of Phidippides, who ran 42 kilometers between Marathon and Athens to announce the joyful news of the victory of Miltiades' troops over the Persians. Repeat twice. Of course, I am a relatively prepared person, I have skied the 50-kilometer marathon of the Festival of the North 11 times in Murmansk. But 42 kilometers on the highway in summer is much more difficult than 50 kilometers on skis in spring. I was hoping for a hitchhiking, of course. Leaving at half past three in the morning from the suburbs of Zakynthos I reached Navagio beach at half past nine . Partly by car (for free and for money), partly by walking.This is the perfect time to enjoy the beauty of the bay. there are no buses with tourists at the top and no water excursions at the bottom yet. You can get a photo like on a postcard. The way back was more difficult, because it was necessary to go through the heat. Hitchhiking almost didn't work. Only locals can let you down. Tourists in rented cars flew by. Probably because they don't see themselves in the pedestrian's place. Although anything can happen... On the north-south highway, I caught a taxi, which I was incredibly happy about. At the end of the day, I looked at my Huawei pedometer: 42 kilometers (66 thousand steps) and about 38 kilometers (according to the map) by car. I repeated the feat of Phidippides. However, unlike the ancient Greek hero, I did not run and did not fight and remained alive..

I’m going back to zante in 2 weeks my daughter really wants to go to shipwreck beach can anyone tell me how long the trip is I no they usually involve visiting the blue caves is it usually about 4hrx in total I can swim but don’t feel confident in deep water do u have to get off the boat ? And does the boat dock right near the edge to access the beach I really want to take her cause it’s her 16th birthday while we’re there but feel nervous cause I don’t like the sea

Hi there you can do a morning trip half a day or you can do a full day trip which yes both include the blue caves.
Yes the boat takes you right to the water's edge and you step off onto the sand . It's very Shelly sand so make sure you have either wet surfing type shoes on or thick flip flops or trainers.
We took a packed lunch and lots of drinks in our bags , however, you can buy these on board the boats if you want to also as there is drop off time . You can swim or just stay on the sand and take photos whilst waiting for the boat to come back .
Take plenty of sun cream and wear hats too 👒

When driving to shipwreck beach from laganas, is it a clear route? roughly how long? and with privately getting a boat there from laganas the same questions! would really appreciate a reply im so confused but really want to go!

It is not very difficult to get to the viewingpoint by foot. The way back is the hardest. Especially with warm weather. Take enough water with you!

Si, Bianca, hay tours en barco q salen de Cefalonia, te llevan a dar una vuelta alrededor de Zante y que te lleva a playa Navaggio.

I'm going there in June. Me and my friend are wondering, how to get from Laganas to Shipwreck beach? Is it an awful idea to rent a quad bike, and make a quad bike adventure (meaning, stopping to other beaches if we want to) and see the island from a different view. Is traveling by quad bikes "safe" or at least no too dangerous for first timers? HEELP

We saw lots of quads around. You could take the quads to St Nicholas Harbor in Volimes, park the quads, take a Shipwreck Beach and Blue Caves Tour. I highly recommend Dimitris and Fay at Theodosis Cruises. You will have plenty of time on Shipwreck Beach to see and swim then see Blue Caves and swim in one on the way back. Afterwards eat at Taverna Porto and then get clear directions to the Shipwreck Beach Overlook and stop there on your way back to enjoy the view from above.
