An amazingly preserved Venetian Fortress - stunning fortifications and a lovely town inside with lots of great restaurants. Well worth the journey up from Venice. We visited for the annual re-enactment event, which was fanastic to be a part of. Will definitely be returning. Missed...More

This very unique and historic city was built in the shape of a star for military reasons. It is designed to be a fortress and able to withstand attack and seige. However, despite the simple design, the complicated series of one way streets, lack of...More

You need to see a birdview of the town before you actually visit it. Only this way you can really appreciate the geometries of the town, its walls, its concentric and radial streets and its beautiful square, which is exactly at the center as a...More

Except for the fortifications around this city (they are impressive) there's not much to see; every building within the bastions is post WWII ugly. A waste of time unless you're interested in 1600 fortress building.

On the way back from Friuli to Bologna, I am glad we had a spare hour to make a short detour to Palmanova, which I had always heard mentioned, but never had a chance to visit. Although the architecture of most buildings within the town...More

We were in the region and on our way back from Aquileia, so decided to stop by to visit the fort in a 9 point star shape. The whole town is within the fort's wall, which is interesting, but all the paths to the top...More
