Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you have a fear of heights, this is not for you! You start off with a gentle walk into the gorge and with it being Winter the surroundings were covered in snow. Beautiful, white fields and a crisp frost on the trees. As you enter the gorge the scene is breathtaking, fast running icey (crystal clear) water and the side walls getting higher. The walkways were safe but you just had to watch out for rocks at head height. As you may imagine, there were spectacular frozen waterfalls, large icicles everywhere, lots of photo opportunities. Well worth a look, we look forward to seeing it in summer.

Lovely walk in the gorge, very impressive even though a little scary, quite safe. You need to wear decent hiking shoes and it is quite steep in parts and could be a little slippy. I would not class it as an easy walk by any means, you need to have a reasonable amount of fitness. Some steep, uneven steps. I would not recommend the short new orange route down to the car park, it is very steep and covered in loose stones so more like a screed slope, not very enjoyable. Although the other return route is longer I would imagine that the decent is more gradual and the path is probably better. Car park was €3, tickets to be paid in cash. Restaurant before you enter as well as Toilets.

Here's a brief resume of a visit to the Breitachklamm (Breitach Gorge):
The Breitachklamm, nestled between Oberstdorf and Tiefenbach, offers an exhilarating adventure through one of Europe's deepest gorges. As you enter, you're immediately enveloped by towering rock faces, sculpted over millennia by the rushing Breitach River.
The well-maintained path leads you through a series of narrow passages and wider openings, each turn revealing new wonders. Wooden walkways cling to the cliff sides, providing safe passage and intimate views of the gorge's geological marvels.
The thunderous waterfalls are the undisputed stars of the show. Their raw power is mesmerizing, sending mists into the air that create ethereal light effects when struck by sunlight. The largest falls command attention, but smaller cascades and rapids contribute to the gorge's constant symphony.
As you progress, the varying width of the gorge creates a dynamic experience. Narrow sections amplify the river's roar, while broader areas allow for moments of peaceful contemplation amidst the lush greenery clinging to the rocks.
The trek can be challenging at times, with steep steps and potentially slippery surfaces, but the payoff is immense. Each viewpoint offers a new perspective on the gorge's grandeur, making every step worthwhile.
The Breitachklamm isn't just a hike; it's a journey through a living museum of natural history, where water's persistent force has carved a magnificent testament to the power of nature.
Would you like me to elaborate on any specific aspect of this visit?

At the entrance parking lot at the Walserschanze there is not a single sign about the prices or any information about how and where to buy tickets online. We walked for half an hour to the ticket office only to find out that you can only pay with cash. We were missing 3 euros, which we would have gladly paid with dollars or a credit card. The chain-smoking monster at the ticket office said that he would gladly let us through if we paid in US$50. Of course we declined and then had to walk 30 minutes back to the parking lot without visiting the gorge. Absolutely outrageous.

A beautiful place for a small, medium or even long hike. We did the long hike.
The gorge is incredible. The path is small and if you want to take a photo or just look around, people behind you will get annoyed. We were here when it was pretty crowded.
Not recommended for anyone who is not sure footed. It can get pretty steep too. Dogs are allowed. We took our dog on the long hike.. we did not know that part of the trail is on open wire metal bridges. The dog obviously did not like this and he is too big to carry. So beware when taking the dog that parts are not 100% dog friendly.
After leaving the gorge there is a pretty steap walk around an Alp. There are restaurants on the route and is is a pretty sight.

Despite the quite a lot of visitors an impressive experience again and again, especially after a rainy phase, as then the Breitach carries a lot of water.
Tip:
Up at the end of the gorge, continue hiking to the magnificently situated Hinterenge or Müllers Alpe Alps or even further into Kleinwalsertal - the landscapes and views are indescribably beautiful.

The Breitachklamm offers its visitors a magnificent natural spectacle. The gorge can be explored in its entirety in around 1 hour. Good shoes and a warm jacket are essential, even in summer, as the gorge is damp and cool. A little physical fitness helps when climbing the stairs at the end of the gorge. You can either go back the same way or hike back to the valley from the upper exit in around 30 minutes. On the way back you can take a break at the Alpe Dornbach restaurant. We can highly recommend this restaurant. It is not closed on any day.

We visited here today, 7,50€ admission is already a word. We didn’t like it so much, I found that there was a lot of driftwood “lying around” here, which could have been eliminated with little effort. I didn't take many photos for this reason, because the driftwood destroyed many subjects.
When we got to the end, I asked myself, when are the Unpacked? Okay, maybe I have already visited too many gorses. 🤷♀️

Absolutely fascinating. But unfortunately as crowded as a funfair on weekends.
I think the ticket price of currently 7.50 euros is fine. It takes a lot of work to keep the trail in order.
Attention...here you get wet :-)
For people who get cold quickly, a sweater or similar is also recommended in summer. Hiking boots are also attached

Very nice day tour for the whole active family. You enjoy beautiful waterfalls and nice walk. Good for people that are able to walk and climb some stairs. Beautiful scenery and if you love waterfalls you will love this one

Alvast bedankt

you need 1 hour min. if you want to walk fast to the end and come back without stops, I would plan few hours as the nature is nice

Hallo.
Susanne
