Well at least something good came out of the wealth of the tobacco industry. This is just beautiful. A great place for a ten minute walk or to eat your picnic. Well looked after and a great variety of colours.

So easy to overlook this spot as you travel down the main road through town, but we stopped for a short while and were so glad we did. So many roses in bloom and many other flowers and trees for some variety, but the peace and calm we felt while walking around was just so worth it. We'd have loved to just sit there for a bit longer and soak up the atmosphere but we had teenagers to fetch in Kaiteriteri so we didn't linger.…

These gardens are for anyone who wants to enjoy the beauty of about 300 rose varieties in the spring and summer months when the roses and rhododendrons are blooming. There are climbing, florabunda, and tea roses,, rhododendrons, magnolias, and other flowering bushes, as well as several large trees. The memorial plaque dedicates the gardens to Charles Pethybridge for his 50 years of service to the tobacco company of W.D. & H.O. Wills Ltd..
