The lake itself is rather small, but the views on Pico volcano and the island of Sao Jorge are awesome. As always in life, best to go on a clear day.

For me it was just one of hundred views in Azores. Hiking trail and cows are there too. Interesting thing is that the lake is in the end of 10km straight road, maybe the longest straight road in Portugal.

Get a taxi to take you up. Then, walk the trail down. It is about 10km of memorable pleasure, wonderful lanscapes, fresh pure air, green vegetation and melodic birds'singing, just like a compass to the walking. Try it!

Beautiful small lake on plateau. You have to walk around the lake on the right side and behind small hill to enjoy spectacular view to the north coast and Sao Jorge island weather permitting.

This serene picnic area overlooks its namesake lake. On our visit the very tame ducks left the water to greet us, with the expectation that we had food, of course. They will eat right out of your hand. On a clear the view towards Pico...More
