Great views

I advise combining a visit to this monument with a visit to the bridge just below it. It’s an easy walk up to it and offers wonderful views. Rather disappointed to see so much graffiti on the monument itself, given that it’s dedicated to so many people who face their lives in the First World War.

Monument aux morts
Jan 2020
One of those memorials that are found pretty frequently in many towns of a certain size and upwards. If you don't see it, your life isn't going to be any poorer for it, but seeing as it's practically right by the Pont Sidi M'Cid - and THAT one would be a shame to miss - why not check this one out, too? After all, it's worth a photo or two, anyway.

Interesting monument, go at sunset for gorgeous views
Aug 2017 • Friends
You will get stunning photos of Constantine City and the surrounding areas from this place. Another very interesting facet that I wouldn't have noticed had I not been visiting with a local was that many of the names of the martyrs are Jewish (!). Apparently after WWII and Israel's opening, many of the large Jewish population of Constantine left the country (don't actually know if it was by their choice or not). But anyway was totally interesting. Try to time it for sunset for best photos.

Where to have a splendid view of Constantine and its surroundings
Sep 2017
The monument was built in the 1930s to honor the French soldiers from Constantine dead in WWI. The names of the soldiers (European, Muslim and Jewish) are etched in stone in alphabetical order. From the site, there are stunning views of the old city (with the 1800s boys' high school and the army barracks -the casbah-), Sidi M'Cid bridge, the Oued Rhumel canyon and the plateaus north and east of the city

Quick walk up to enjoy the view
Dec 2016 • Solo
Parking is tight and the road is narrow, however the views are spectacular, so be sure to make a quick stop. There is the added bonus of an historic Algerian house just down the hill a bit from the monument.
