Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Quick stop here to see a lovely waterfall. Parking is just alongside the road and it's a quick five minute walk to the waterfall each way, ten minutes round trip. Not suitable for a wheelchair nor stroller/pushcar as there are exposed roots.

Easy walk with a carrier or a child in your arms.

An excellent place to relax and unwind.
Can be reached by a longer walk (about 90 minutes) from Karangahake Gorge car park or by a short 1-minute walk from Waitawheta Road, where it meets SH2.
There are no benches, toilets or water taps - so please be prepared accordingly.

Situated just few steps off road, this beautiful waterfalls are waiting for you!
Have a quick visit to this falls if you are in Tauranga or on the way to Victoria Battery Site.
The main parking area is about 100 meters away from the falls entrance. Or you could just park near the walkway but only 2-3 cars could fit.

Short easy walk from the side of the road. Uneven gravel surface not really suitable for mobility devices.
No public bathrooms.
Bank down to the waters edge is slippery, care must e taken or it will be nasty fall. River rocks are slippery.
Great scenic spot, lovely looking falls, usually has a number of people jockeying for photo positions.

A very small carpark just off to the side of the road for 3 cars. Very shot walk and beautiful falls. Saw these just after all the flooding end January 2023 and the water was flowing! Quite impressive. No way would you swim there as it had a fast moving current and the volume of water was huge. Worth a small detour to check it out.

I travelled by train from Waihi to Waikino and from there it was a 25 minute walk to Owhoroa Falls. I have visited the falls several times in the past, they are quite stunning and were quite a sight on the beautiful cloudless day that I visited. There were a number of other visitors enjoying the sight too. It is worth a detour and is easy to get to as it is just off State Highway 2 about 2km west of Waikino.

Owharoa falls are just off State Highway 2 and along the Hauraki Rail Trail, a short distance from Waihi in the area of Karangahake Gorge. We visited a couple of times, the first visit was fine but the weather was dull and we did not get to experience the falls fully. On the second visit on a sunny day the falls were spectacular and glistened in the sun. The falls are slightly off the beaten track but definitely worth seeing.

it is beautiful as well as the gorge, what was special is that we were practically alone, but i would not recommend to travel here just for its sake

Well signposted just off SH2 in Karangahake Gorge is a marvellous little waterfall. We got there after a night of rain & it was running smoothly. Easy parking nearby on rail trail & then 100m walk further up road. Well signposted.

On our way to Tauranga, we saw a sign stating that there was a waterfall. Watch for the green sign on the side of the road to see this beautiful waterfall. It’s a quick easy walk down a well worn path. Park along the side of the road.
