On the hills surrounded by powerful mountains, and with a spectacular view of the fjord, you will find Otternes Farm. The farm consisting of 27 buildings, each with its own function, was probably cleared for cultivation before the Black Death. In addition the old cultural landscape with hills, wells, stairs and stone structure is intact. Experience old handcraft techniques and food made in traditional style. Open: 1000-1700 daily. Guided tours at: 10.00 + 12.00 +14.00 + 16.00.

We walked from Flam to Aurland and stopped here on the way. WOW. A real find. It is a complex of old farm buildings and village houses which you can just wander around for no fee, but I would have been happy to pay. Some...More

We visited in the second half of October and happened to stop by as we drove to Aurland from Flam, just because we saw the sign and were curious what was there. We were not disappointed. We were the only visitors there and got to...More

The day we visited in late August the farm was closed for the season but we were able to walk all around the grounds and see all the interesting old buildings and imagine life as it was long ago here. Fabulous views of the fjord...More

Still closed as of mid May 2017, thought the signage says welcome... there's a low barrier across the road. Nothing at the bottom of the hill indicates it's closed and the hiking maps given out in Flam show it as a destination. Village looks great....More

A pleasant walk along the fjord and then up a very steep hill brings you to Otternes, a now abandoned goat farm dating back to 1700. Situated high above the fjord in sloping meadows, it gave a great snap-shot of farming conditions in Norway's past...More

This attraction appears to be defunct. It's a nice walk from town but the gate is closed. We wandered in a anyway and looked around. Al the buildings were locked up except the bathroom (nice of them). There seemed to be various bits of trash...More

It's a beautiful village, with amazing fjord views. But it is closed for 2016 season, not sure why. We visited either way, but all the houses were closed.
