About Kapiti Island Nature Tours
Kapiti Island is one of New Zealand's most visited places for bird watchers. It is an internationally renowned sanctuary and is blessed with an abundance of native and endangered species like Little Spotted Kiwi, Takahe, and the cheeky Kaka who have not survived so well on the mainland. This nature-inspired setting is the perfect place to experience New Zealand's native birds in their natural environment. Kapiti Island is just 40 minutes north of Wellington, New Zealand's capital city. Activities include half and full day nature tours, overnight Kiwi spotting and rare bird tours. The Maori hospitality you will experience on Kapiti Island - one of New Zealand's most precious nature reserves - is unsurpassed.

Our visit was a stand-out from the boat trip over to the north end of the island, the introductory talk, and then our guide Janine spending an hour walking with us and explaining the history, conservation and the bird life. We then walked to the summit and around the gravel bank with plenty of time to get back for the return boat trip.

Booked a day trip to the North End of the island without a guide. Received email with detailed instructions. Great introductory talk once on the island. We did both the Okupe Loop Track and Coastal Loop track and had plenty of time to rest in between walks and before heading back. Weather was great as well so overall an awesome trip!

I enjoyed the whole day, and there was plenty of time to go up to the Look Out and then walk back along the coast. It was awesome also to see so many Native birds, Tui, Fantail, Welcome Swallow, Weka, North Island Robin.

Excellent day trip to the north end. Paid extra $20 for a guided walk & talk. Janine was our guide. She was very knowledgeable on the history of the island and also talked a lot about Maori culture on the island. Would like to do the overnight tour. Maybe hike to the top.

This was a beautiful day from 8-4! All the staff we dealt with were fabulous from start to finish. We travelled over by boat, had a warm welcome and guided walk with information about the island and the birds. We walked to the north end summit ourselves , armed with new knowledge so were able to see several rare birds.’ We had booked lunch at the Lodge and it was outstanding and so healthy. The keas and wekas were everywhere. The trip back was swift and we loved the whole experience.
