Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nice refreshing hike. The views were really nice. Some steep parts but not bad. It was really easier than I expected. Some people were running up the mountain, that impossible for me.

We headed off on a warm March day for the top of Kakepuku Mt. Loved this walk to the top and felt the special significance and spirit of this place, a stunning area. How lucky are we to have this beautiful reserve on our doorstep.

The walk is pleasant when you get to the treeline, even on a hot day. The track is well maintained but it can be muddy in places. The big issue is the view from the top is incredibly disappointing as it is blocked by scrub that should have been cleared. Even when Maori lived up there there were no trees to block the view so its crazy they can't at least be trimmed a bit now. The lookout platform is effectively pointless.

Kakepuku is a beautiful mountain with a great walk to the summit. It is a tough walk but is definitely worth it. The bird life is great and the views are amazing.

The trail has a few steeper parts at the top half, but nothing too challenging (it took me just under an hour to get to the top). You should be wearing sneakers or hiking boots because it's slippery in some parts. Dogs aren't allowed as there are traps for rodents. At the top, there is a small scenic tower from where you can see the region around you.

Awesome walk and great views. Well marked out trail. It got steep near the top over 400 steps. Well worth the climb.

The track up this mountain is well marked & takes approximately 1 hour . On the way up you are rewarded with views out to the east across farmland to another mountain, Maungatautiri.
Towards the top the grassy path gives way to steps which take you through the welcome arch and to the climbable tower. Informative plaques provide local Māori & geographical history.
It is a popular climb for locals & visitors , some doing it weekly for fitness. It’s a good afternoon walk & a reasonable challenge. I always enjoy it.

The trail starts off quite easy, and gradually increases until the steps, nearly there now. There are benches along the way to sit and view, one small tower en-route and a large tower at the top with the trig point. The views here are obscured by overgrown trees and shrub. The 'locals' need to pull their fingers out and get up there and cut them down, and before you go into an Eco rant, they must have felled hundreds of trees to build the track, so wind your necks in. A good walk, interesting foliage, don't touch the red flowers, poisonous.

I enjoy this walk as the views are great. Takes me about an hour 40 to get to the summit. View from there is hidden by trees though. Track is well maintained. Good parking area.
