The walk from the the signpost to the township is basically flat, just 1 hill, but this can be avoided if you walk on the track along the sea. Take a photo at the chain and with any luck you can take a photo on Stewart Island at the other end of the chain. The walk is easy, only a couple of kms and if you time it right you pick up some fish 'n' chips along the way and sit by the beach.

This is a great walkway from which to see Stewart Island. It keeps to the coast all the way and is a good pathway that is easy to follow. Well worth walking along for the great views.

Beautiful landscape for a run. I had trouble finding the track on the Ocean Beach side of the walkway and ended up getting a bit lost in some (spectacular) mountain bike trails up on the hill. If your navigation skills are as poor as mine, I’d recommend starting at the Stirling Point end or taking a phone.

We had parked to see the famous signpost, so decided to spend some time on this walk. The weather was beautiful and the scenery stunning. We walked for about twenty minutes before turning back. Hope to bet back again to do more of it. For the brave, you can take a side track up to the Bluff hill lookout.

Everyone comes to Bluff to look at the signpost but it seems not many venture out on the Foveaux Walkway which is a shame as this walk is stunning! We walked all the way out to Lookout Point and were blown away by the scenery with great views of Stewart Island and other islands in the distance.
It’s a fairly easy walk and we were lucky to walk it on a sunny day so that made the experience even better.
Highly recommended.

In a 4 day trip to Invervargill. This walk was my favourite. Check out the map in the pictures. The path follows along to the viewpoint, which gives you great views to Stewart Island. The last picture is from Bluff hill. We climbed up the hill leaving the walkway and coming back via the gun placement. Well worth doing the big loop.

Excellent and highly recommended. My second time to the Stirling point, didn’t realize this was there until this time. Very safe, wonderful views back of the Catlins in the distance, and the southern Islands including Dog and Stewart. Very interesting educational signs along the way about the area, history, fauna, flora, oysters, and geography.

Well worth the trip up Bluff Hill and back through Foveaux walkway. Wicked views of the coast and Strait. Highly recommend, no matter the weather (remember, there's no such thing as bad weather, just poor clothing choices!)

Stop by Stirling Point for the signpost and noticed this track by the parking area. There is a short staircase leading to the beach. Me and my mom didn't complete the track but it seems that you could walk all the way up to Bluff Hill top for a nice panoramic view of the coastal and Bluff city view. (I drove all the way up to Bluff hill top for sunset, the view from the top was simply amazing!)

This walkway along the ocean at the border of a rainforest is easy accessible for any one. You don't need a sporty condition to enjoy this trail. Along the path there are several places with view at the ovean. We saw a number of Tui's, Shags, Wax eyes etc. at short distance. Worthwhile to walk the track.
