Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We spent a week in this seaside town. The beach is 70% free and has only 2 areas equipped with deck chairs and umbrellas. The sea is clean with very little algae and there is almost always a light sea breeze (from the sea inland). The town is quiet, livable and prices are lower than in Marina di ragusa. Comfortable x families with children. The services are not many but sufficient. For those like us who love sun and sea we recommend it.

The town of Donnalucata is small but equipped with everything: from a restaurant to a supermarket, fruit and vegetables, pharmacy, bar, butcher, fishmonger.
Long and sandy beaches with a splendid sea with clean and transparent water. Furthermore, which is fundamental for those who have small children or are not too confident in swimming, the bottom is very shallow for at least a hundred metres.
The streets are also quite clean and the kindness of the local people is typical of Sicilians: welcoming and warm.
Furthermore, a few minutes by car, you will find the villages of Marina di Ragusa (worth visiting!) and the town of Scicli (very beautiful).

This was our second time to Sicily after having fallen in love with the Island in May last year. We rushed in January for the Are Lingus sale and booked flights for April and August after much deliberation. After many questions and many reservations about holiday homes and the merits or a car, we settled on Donnalucata and booked what seemed like the most wonderful holiday home by the beach. My husband was very apprehensive as even though we knew it was off-season it seems unrealistically cheap. We managed the transfer from Catania to Donnalucata very last at night and therefore really didn't see much when we arrived. Donnalucata is a beautiful little fishing village and everyone is so so incredibly friendly. By the end of the holiday we knew everyone in the village from the bar to the supermarket to the ice cream shop. Of course with four children and three very blonde... everyone knew us and I really enjoyed the comments from the Italian Grandmothers asking me were they all mine !!! and when I said yes they commented Brava Mama - of course my comments back was non stupido !!!!! The House we rented through home holidays was perfect directly on the beach as lots of houses are in Donnalucata, the owners parents lived next door - themselves also converted by the mystical Sicily - from the North - they came down last october and hadn't left by April !!! We became great friends with them and the owners Mother treated me like a daughter - cooking and washing for us - what bliss. !! They introduced us to some other locals and now (through the power of FB) we have great friends in Donnalucata.
There was as suggested everything in the village: The small local Conad was perfect, The local bar (Mimo's) served great coffee and breakfast, There was an amazing wine shop where you could buy wine by the plastic bottle for next to nothing. I would have loved to have got some shipped back and must investigate this time. The fish market was the only thing that was a bit dissappointing and very expensive ! (maybe they just saw us coming). Everyone was really really helpful and exceptionally friendly. The girl in the conad vacum packed all my parmigiano and San Daniele ham when returning home. The bus service from there to Scicli was grand and one day we ventured to Modica. Scicil is a lovely city very very pretty. We took the bus one day from Modica to Noto and I think we may have been ripped off - we were charged EUR29 one way from Modica to Noto. For two adults and two kids. It was a very very long journey and everyone was sick afterwards... but we saw every village very well !!!!!

The only downside of the holiday was that because of high winds we were unable to land in Dublin and ended up in Edinburgh for the night with no transfer or no prearranged hotel (at 2am in the morning) - not ideal with four small children (one with Special needs !!!).

I have already booked next Easter in Donnalucata and on our return to Sicliy on 14th August we will for sure be visiting our friends there.

I can't thank Vagabonda enough for all her advice for sure once again she made the holiday by her recommendations.

If you want a serviced beach but without crowds then come here. Two sunbeds and an umbrella for 10 Euros for half a day and the nearest people to us were over 50 yards away.

There's a great beach at Donnalucata but before the beach you need to check out Castello Donnalucata. A kind of Castle / Stately home with amazing gardens and well worth a visit.

Donnalucata is a quiet seaside town best known for its golden sandy beach. The beach is a wide expanse of fine golden sand that gradually slopes into the sea making it an ideal family beach and safe for children. There are very limited facilities available, no rental umbrellas so for shade, you need to take your own umbrella. Showers are available at intervals along the promenade, a simple bar at one end of the beach and a cafe (with toilets) on the promenade at the other end of the beach are the only retail outlets. The local bus stops at the end of the beach but it is typically a two hourly service.
Whenever we have visited, there has always been quite a breeze coming off the sea that tends to blow the very fine sand. The sea is fairly warm with tiny waves and a slight swell as the beach is sheltered by a headland on one side and a long breakwater on the other.
Given its location, even at the end of July, it is never crowded.
Just remember the sunscreen as it is easy to burn on this beach.

Fantastic gelato at the Blue Moon, wonderful outdoor lunches in the gazebo at Il Consiglio di Sicilia during the summer and quiet indoor dining with atmosphere during spring and fall. Fish markets by the seaside and stunning sea views...a wonderful little town.

Gorgeous sleepy town on the sea. Has everything you need and the beaches along that coast are fab. Eat at Il Consiglio di Sicilia if you are there.

Our second visit to the area of Donnalucata. So we knew our way around.
Chef and I are cooking for the family while on vacation, so we headed here for some fresh fish..
The area itself is a gorgeous beach town. You do have to pay for parking and it seemed limited. There are restaurants.
