Visited La Fornace Penna as it featured in the book and TV production of Inspector Montalbanos 'The Shape of Water'. We were staying near Punta Secca and Sampieri was a 40 minute drive away. It was well worth the drive. As well as the amazing...More

Not worth a visit as such but it is surprising how photogenic a disused factory can be as it overlooks Sampieri beach.

This derelict factory features in several Inspector Montelbano episodes. The atmospheric ruin is worth a short visit (internal access is discourages), and a beautiful sandy beach is nearby if you wish to stay longer

What was once an industrial building has now been abandoned and provided the background for a good number of scenes from the well known Montalbano series. Worth the visit especially since it is close to Sampieri.

This ruined brickworks is extremely photogenic, set on a peninsula of rock above the sea, visible for long distances. To get there do not attempt to park in Sampieri itself: there is a large car park but no signage to get there, and the streets...More

This abandoned tile factory, standing on the headland beyond Sampieri beach like the ruins of some ancient temple, was used frequently as a location in filming the popular tv series Montalbano.

You can see why this served as a perfect location and as ruined factories go this has a sense of grandeur. It is not the easiest place to find but when you do the peaceful surroundings, the rock formations, the lizards and the views make...More

We got lost and had a nightmare of a trip. Seen from a distance at the end... still impressive. Mixed feelings: on one side because of Montalbano this is now very popular, but apparently not looked after; on another side there are other relicts of...More

The place has its own magic. The story of this ruined furnace, which was destroyed by an arson in 1924, blends with my souvenirs of Inspector Montalbano's visits. I enjoyed being able to walk in and around freely, while enjoying amazing views over the Mediterranean...More

As mentioned below La Fornace Penna is an evocative ruined brick factory that doubles as a the Mannara ruined tuna fishery in certain episodes of the Montelbano Detective series. On a couple of early evenings we parked the car by La Fornace Penna, accessible from...More
