We couldn't recommend Hack n Stay more. Easily our favourite accommodation across 6 months in NZ. Magical experience on the horses, riding on the beach. Neither of us had ridden before and Baerbel and Pippa were amazing at coaching us and giving us the confidence to go well beyond what we imagined we'd do. Our horses McDuff and Brown Acre were lovely and eased our obvious nerves! The house is so cozy and comfortable, and our room was great. We felt like we could have stayed for weeks and we were sad to leave. Baerbel was a great host and so generous with her time - we left having learnt a lot from her! We'll be back - Rowan & Adele

This is the best place we have stayed in New Zealand. We were in a camper and and the site has powered pitches with easy access to water and a beautiful setting amongst apple trees. The showers and toilets were great. The host, Babel, is fantastically welcoming and a very kind and knowledgable horse person. I had not ridden for 40 years but she put me at ease and had a selection of beautiful and very well cared for horses. My wife, who is an experienced rider, learnt a lot from Babel’s natural horsemanship approach. Of course you don’t have to ride but it would be a pity not to with a lovely track leading down to a massive, and nearly deserted beach. There are glow worms along the track which make for a nice after dinner stroll. It’s less than ten minutes drive into Takaka for a restaurant meal or go a few minutes the other way to the old Mussel Inn. We were really sorry to have to move on from this gem of a place. It made the windy drive over Takaka Hill well worthwhile.

We had a magical time riding, learning and exploring with Bärbel and her family. They were incredibly gracious and gave us a lift into town and back since we were didn’t have a car. I brought my two teenagers and we would highly recommend this to anyone looking for horseback riding when they come to the area. We will definitely return someday. And next time we’ll stay!! Thank you.

I had an amazing time. Baerbel was lovely. Took time to explain everything and I learned a lot about how to ride and treat the horses properly. In general their horses have a priority and they make sure they are treated well. All in all a 10/10 experience and I would definitely recommend doing it and also if you can stay on the Farm it's lovely!

Had an excellent experience! We had been extremely disappointed by Farewell Spit Horse Treks who turned us away at the doorstep due to 'weather'. So so glad we found Hack 'N Stay, the staff were so friendly and we were well looked after with different horses to match our abilities. Was able to fulfill my dream of cantering along the beach and couldn't have had a better experience!!!
If you are in Collingwood-Takaka-Golden Bay area, do NOT go to Farewell Spit Horse treks as the customer service is dreadful, instead go to Hack 'N Stay for a guaranteed wonderful experience!!!

FANTASTIC horse riding experience. Cannot rave enough about it. First and foremost, what I really liked was how Hack'n Stay care about their horses' health and safety, from teaching the riders how to help the horse go up and down the steep hills, to having the riders bond a bit with their horse (give them a good brushing) before the ride and feeding the horses at the end of the ride.
We spent two hours on a beautiful ride with horses Chloe and Luke; our guide Ellie was on horse Leonard. Ellie was helpful, calm and knew exactly what we and our horses were doing at all times. We were beginners and Ellie's encouragement and pointers of how we could help the horses were welcomed and made our experience even better.
The scenery was breath taking! After going up and down a few steep hills, we ended up on an expansive beach. The horses got to splash their hooves in the water, and we got incredibly close to all the shorebirds (oyster catchers, herons, sea gulls, etc.) that were poking their bills into the sand at the shore line.
If you have a chance to get out there, do it!

Kia Ora Rosalyn, Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We love it when guests truly "get it" and discover for themselves what is possible with the magic of connected riding when forging a partnership with your horse. We'll pass on your lovely words to Chloe and Luke in the form of scratches and apples haha We look forward to showing you more of our stunning coastline on horseback and welcoming you back any time :) Horsely Yours, The team at Hackfarm

My partner and I absolutely loved the horse ride with Baerbel. If we get the change, we will certainly be back. Baerbel gave us lots of good tips to be a good horse rider & to be more confident in general. It’s way more than a standard horse ride. The area is amazing too and the horses are looked after in the best way possible.

We also stayed at Hack Farm, which we would 100% recommend. We only stayed for 1 night but could have easily spend so much more time here as it’s so tranquil! A big thanks to Christoph, as he made us feel very welcome & made sure all guests were looked after.

Stayed here just for 1 night and it was perfect. The facilities are really clean and the hosts really welcoming. Also, it's really cheap for the area: 15$ pp. I was lucky enough to be there for the first pizza night hosted by the 3 german girls that work there. It was a succes I had an amazing evening. Would 100% recommand this place to stay in the area.

Lovely athmosphere, also because it was quieter than probably during summer months. There was only another family and it felt like, we all are a big family. The owner is a very lovely german woman.
I booked the horse riding tour and I can only recommend it. Especially with low tide, it's just stunning. The horses look very healthy and happy :)
I was lucky enough to be the only one on tour so I got private lessons, it was just amazing!

I wish we could have stayed longer. Wonderful time. Or hosts were wonderful. I did 2 hour horseback riding on the beach. The Clydesdales were so we'll behaved. This is a magic little ranch with great views all all the facilities one needs for a great stay. If you are in the area staying here will be one of your highlights.
