Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Kids seemed to absolutely love this. Itās an elaborate network of rocks with plenty of nooks and crannies but the real gem is that local volunteers have provided a map and named parts of it. They even put little figurines around the place.
Even us adults spent about 90min just walking around (had to crouch)
Fyi itās all spinning and roots so unfortunately no strollers or wheelchairs will make far it in there.

Definitely take the time to wonder around this amazing natural formation of ancient rock, hewn out over time leaving this most spectacular display of nature at its finest. We took our grand children and they absolutely loved it. Playing in and around the various rocks and sliding through the natural tunnels etc, they had a ball. Look out for all the little creatures hiding amongst the rock formations, placed by the custodians to add fun for the wee ones. Excellent family fun and believe it or not. Its Free!!

It's an out of the ordinary (and slightly random) experience. I really liked the story behind the place and how it's so lightly visited, despite being highly accessible, just a couple of minutes drive out of Takaka. You can really get lost here, but it's nice to explore and take your time.

Hidden Gem! Was enjoyed by young and old. Amazing rock formations and so much to explore. Would recommend heading to the end of the track first and working back towards the entrance. Kids really enjoyed the tunnels right at the back of the area.

In comparison to a similar nearby attraction, this sight is the lesser of the two. However, that is from an adults perspective, and for a child, the reverse opinion would almost certainly hold true. One can truly become disorientated in the labyrinth and even the provision of a map does little to prevent some loss of direction. There is little danger however of becoming totally lost for longer than an hour.

Loved exploring the labyrinth rocks, singing quietly to myself 'Magic Dance' from the film Labyrinth. Kids loved losing us, then all got separated for a time. Lot of fun when you put you kids cap on.

Only 2 minutes from Takaka this is an enchanted area of rock & plants. Little toys etc set among the rocks for the kids to find like treasure. Using the map, find the rock formations. We spent 40 minutes here but you could spend longer. There is a donation box to help with the maintenance of the area, which is looked after by volunteers.

Fun, free activity. Limestone rock formations. It was very hot in summer though - take water. Mostly an easy walk though it's quite long if you want to see all of it. We just looked at a little bit.

An interesting natural maze of rocks, creating remarkable chasms, channels, arches and mini-gorges. Our kids enjoyed exploring the many pathways - some leading to dead-ends, whilst other required climbing through narrow holes on our hands and knees. The kids could have spent an eternity here, exploring the maze of routes.

Takaka's best kept secret. We found it really interesting. Well laid out pathways amongst the rocks. Cool on a hot day. The map at the entrance is quite useful, and we thought that a couple of labels on the main pathways would have helped, but part of the fun is getting a little lost in the labyrinth. Highly recommended for visitors.

Take the road out of Takaka towards Abel Tasman NP. Look for a small sign and a road on the left, about 4-5 km east of Takaka. Labyrinth Rocks are about 1 km down this road, and are visible from the Takaka road (they are quite low in profile.) Or ask at the Takaka Information office.
