The rudest Japanese staff I have ever seen
Dec 2019 • Family
We went for 2 days consecutively because we really wanted to take the hot air balloon ride but unfortunately due to strong wind it was cancelled.

We still had fun on their rafting, banana ride and snowmobile. The guides were all polite and very nice BUT there was a Japanese female receptionist who was very rude. She was consistently rude and unfriendly for BOTH DAYS that we were there. I dare say she’s the rudest Japanese I have ever encountered throughout my many years of travelling in Japan.

She was not proficient in English, hence she ignored all our questions in English. And to our horror, she’s the conductor of the Ice cream making course. Be prepared to face her black face and cold attitude throughout. My son had stepped into the hut with his boots on, instead of wearing their slippers. She quickly and very roughly lift him up and set him down on the mat meant for us to take off our shoes. She did it twice to him although he didn’t really mean to step in with his boots. I was shocked she handled a customer like that, like a man lifting weights? Really very rough.

There is a very nice English-speaking lady there who readily assists us, I think she’s not local, and the other Japanese men working there are friendly to chat with and generally want us to have fun. They even allowed my kids to have fun making snowballs and play a little while before driving us back to the Furano Station. In general, the whole experience would be perfect if not for such an epic-rude Japanese female staff. 😩

Just follow policies and take in business without providing a duty of care
Dec 2018 • Family
We are a very big group consisting of adults and very young children. We are seriously interested in the winter activities. We have booked the hot air balloon, snow mobile and some other activities, photo tour and night watching in advance.

The company owed us a duty of care to advise how feasible was our booking (of the many different activities) and failed to advise us the amount of time we needed given that we are such a big group to do each activity given the unpredictable weather conditions, where temperature dipped and it was snowing constantly. We are foreigners and completely have no of the idea about the local conditions. They were mainly concern in securing the booking and make business and without advising if we enter into a fair deal with reasonable recourse.

There are other areas where they fail to provide a duty of care.

1. Goggles to protect our eyes from the falling snow as we do banana boat were only provided when we asked for them and AFTER the children suffered from getting ice on their eyes and faces.
2. We had a hurried lunch in one of their very cold huts without adequate heater as we over ran the first activity and had to do the photo point tour at 1pm. Mind you we were even asked to remove our shoes in the hut in -8 degrees weather outside. If we have followed their procedure it would have been suicidal.
3. After lunch, we took a mini bus without adequate heating on the photo tour. The Nepalese guide who could speak English barely gave any narration and was busy helping the driver clear the windscreen which was frosting very quickly. The respite we had was he gave us hot green tea. The bus don’t feel warm even after we asked for the heater to turn up. Not to say the photo tour was overpriced and we were only driven to 3 locations.

Night Watching tour - Not worth it
Dec 2018 • Couples
This tour is pitched as though you’d be driven to a remote location and hike around looking at wildlife and the stars. In reality, of the two hours, it was nearly all spent in a bus. We drove a massive loop around Furano getting out at two publicly accessible look out points.

The only wildlife we saw was a fox on the side of the road. For this price I would instead recommend hiring a car and driving around beautiful Furano yourself.

For a couple, this was a 5400 yen bus ride.

Enjoyable experience
Aug 2018 • Family
We took the evening hot air balloon ride. We enjoyed ourselves especially the kids. As we had many people in our group, the kids were offered to go up the second time for free. They were very happy. We were just a little disappointed that the ride was not as high as we thought. Overall we had a good time

Rafting was great!
Aug 2018 • Family
I went rafting with my girls (19 and 15) during the summer months. We had to travel for quite a while by coach until we got into the place but once there, things were very well organised. It was a family rafting with little children but our guide made sure that my two were at the front and provided lots of excitement for them - including swimming in the freezing water. It was a wonderful 1.5hour - warmly recommended! Remember that transfers are long (3 hours altogether) so it takes the whole afternoon.

Fun ride on snow mobile
Feb 2018 • Couples
Wanted to go for the hot air balloon ride but it was cancelled due to strong wind. We went for our snow mobile ride and totally enjoyed it. It was quite safe and our guide was very friendly and professional.

There are also other activities available such as rafting, banana boat ride, and more.

Recommended to book online before going down. You do not have to pay upfront.

Best of Abashiri if you don't ski and not super rich.

Snowmobile is my passion and Asobiya is best I had so far. Small group, kids can ride, not so much unnecessary regulations, riding snowmobile on your own with supervision but without following instructor's track. Deers and birds around, lots of snow. Really best of snowmobile experience in Hokkaido. I tried Snowmobileland in Sapporo - not even near experience compare to Asobiya. Plus, unlimited tubing for a small fee. If you scared to start learning skiing, go Asobiya - kids will ride miniature ATVs and snowmobiles plus raft rides and tubing. And it is just mile away from central Furano.

Great Fun and great hospitality.
Feb 2017 • Family
We went for 10km snow mobile and photo point tour in one day. Both were great ways to enjoy nature. On the snow mobile, 10km was just nice for us as it was freezing cold (-16°). We rode along creeks, bridge and snow capped mountain range. Scenery was fantastic. My 13 yr old son even saw 2 deers at a river bank! Taka San was great, always ensuring our safety and went at our own pace. We were lucky to that day as we had clear skies and there were no other groups. The 10km course took us about an hour to complete. We had a photo break at one breath taking spot.
The photo point tour was equally nice. Managed to take beautiful shots of Christmas Tree, Parent & Child, No Name Hill, Mild 7 and a waterfall all around Biei. Thanks to Atsushi who was very accomodating. Always asking us to take our time. He even dropped us off at Ningle Terrace at the end of the tour. We were picked up by both Atsushi and Taka San at Furano Natulux earlier in the morning.

Thanks Guys!

They could provide rough weather condition
Dec 2016 • Family
We booked this hot air balloon 6 months in advance. However, on the day of the event, we were informed that the weather was windy and had to be cancelled.

The activities could have been better managed if:-

1. The operator could have at least make some recommendation of when are the good dates for the hot air balloon activity instead of enforcing us to have a local contactable rental phone, though we request for watsapp or email communication. Or the operator could have provided their direct mobile number so that we could call them. The operator make us spend money to get a local phone just for this activity and yet to tell us they could not proceed due to weather condition.

2. The operator should take into consideration how the customer will feel as we have taken all the hassle to travel all the way from New Chitose Airport to Furano for this one and only attraction.

3. About the weather condition, we can understand that. But what we don't understand is, the operator insisted that we rent a local number when they were unable to secure the activity. They should not insist on the customer to have a local contactable phone.

4. Practically everyone is using watsapp and quick internet access nowadays and yet we have to adhere to this outdated way of communication.

5. I wasted a night stay in furano, rental phone for 8 days because we are travelling around in Hokkaido for another 7 days and this phone is of no use to us. Furthermore, we also wasted petrol travelling here. Great disappointment.

A caution to other travellers who wish to engage Asobiya operator for this activity especially international traveller. There is only one slot at 6.30am within the day for this hot air balloon. There is no flexibility in the schedule and there is a high possibility of cancellation. The operator also did not offer an alternative flight schedule on other days but they simply slam on your face that its cancelled. It is not worth to take the risk to come all the way here.

Well-equipped company with experienced guide...BUT...
Jun 2016 • Family
I booked a family rafting trip for my family, which included two seniors and 3 kids.
I communicated several times with Asobiya for preparation and checked the weather meticulously before confirming my activity date --- it was supposed to have been the highlight of our trip...

But the weather was unpredictable....

During lunch I learned that strong rain warning had been issued for Asahikawa, north of Furano. I called Asobiya immediately to check if we should go ahead with the activity, and was told that the activity would go on as per scheduled. I had my misgivings.

While I had been told in our email exchanges that dry suits were usually not worn during family rafting, I was pleasantly surprised and appreciated that the company provided dry suits for all participants, probably in anticipation of the bad weather.

Our guide Suman was knowledgeable and helpful. He gave us detailed safety instructions before the start of the activity. I fully agreed that the briefing was necessary but what he said probably overwhelmed our seniors. Worse, it started pouring, and when the seniors were told that they had to carry the raft to the river, they gave up and pulled out of the activity.

On hindsight, perhaps more thoughts could have been put into to reassure seniors in the activity. I had informed Asobiya right from the beginning about the age/health conditions of our seniors, and the fact that they both have weak legs. Asobiya staff assured me that their participation was not a problem at all.

That being the case, the guide could have been better briefed of the conditions of the seniors and not require them to do things that are beyond them.

Moreover, the paths leading to and from the river had quite a bit of plant growth and were quite slippery in the rain, it would not have been advisable to ask the seniors to carry the raft, lest they slip and fall.

The rafting itself was quite manageable even in the downpour. If the weather had been good, it would probably have been good fun. Still, I had my misgivings if the activity should be conducted as a heavy rain warning had been issued in the area.

But it was a disappointment that our seniors had to pull out last minute even though they were all changed and prepared for the activity....

For the company, since they are marketing the activity as suited for seniors and have accepted my booking, I would have expected them to do more to take care of seniors participating in the activity.
