This area has excellent hiking trails that afford both coastal and mountain views The trails are well maintained and marked but some are very steep and many routes involve much altitude gains with descents down to the sea and climbs back up again Lovely, quiet area with great cafes and restaurants in the villages

Me and my partner came to La Gomera in hopes of a quiet getaway somewhere remote. We found a remote island yes, however the people are the absolute rudest people I have ever met. I speak Spanish (not 100% but enough for my travels through Spain) and the people would still not engage with us. We resorted to speaking Irish as it was easier than being looked up and down for speaking English (not our fault we were colonised). From the moment you step on the beach every head turns and the conversations then turn into whispers about us (again, I speak Spanish) we tried to pay no attention to this but at a certain point it becomes demoralising and hard to want to do anything. The only thing we could do was go on hikes as there was no residents there and we could finally not feel strange. My partner is French and struggles with Spanish (her fourth language) and she was openly laughed at in the supermarkets by both staff and residents for not speaking perfect Spanish and this killed her confidence to the point she stopped speaking all together. One supermarket in particular the woman followed me and her up each and every isle to watch us (we were looking for a cold drink and something to cook as eating out wasn’t an option) Overall I would say if you are Irish don’t go here. They assume you’re English and make you feel horrible for it, they don’t want to try speak Spanish with you and they look at you strange if you’re not as tan as them (Racism?)
