Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We walked for a day from Hermigua more or less following the El Cedro stream passing the waterfall, making a roundabout south of El Cedro area and back to Hermigua. Several hiking alternatives but rather steep and only for the sure footed. Also easy walks are possible in this fascinating forest.

Amazing forest not to be missed. We took the number 8 from the Main Street to El Cedro. Easy 2.8 kms. Very green and lush. Amazing. It is cool there so do not forget your jacket. There is a restaurant at El Cedro (which can be missed). The further walk down to the cascade is very steep and you need healthy knees.

We stayed at a Casa rural in El Cedro so we were very close to many of the trails that start in this area. The trail to La ermita was very nice and in good condition. We only walked for about 2 hours and did a loop coming out on a forest road. Not many people, trail in good conditions. Interpretive signs about your locations can be a bit confusing, but in general it is ok and you can always retrace your steps if you feel your are lost. The forest is impressive. Many very large trees, lots of ferns and other plants found in this type of cloud forest. Not too many birds, the black bird was the most common.
Nice picnic area at La Ermita. Not too many bathrooms along the route.
I would return to this area for more hikes.

We found the laurisilva forests on Tenerife, La Palma and El Hierro to be as good or better than what we saw on this trail. It reminded us of many dense forest walks in our local woods (the Jura Mountains of France). There were some interesting exotic trees and plants but after 10-20 minutes of the same vegetation, it became boring. We think that it might be better in misty weather which would give a more mysterious atmosphere. We had clear sunny weather and found it had little charm compared to the other above-mentioned places. If this was our first time in a laurisilva forest and the conditions were right, I could rate it at 3 or 4 but never a 5. I guess you have to be a forest hiking lover for this. We are mountain hiking lovers that like views and changing landscape and this is definitely not like that, hence our rating of 2. We did a long hike (13km) of which about half was in the laurisilva forests and found it mindlessly boring and tedious. We suggest a very short hike in this area unless you are a forest lover.

This is a magical place. It is a rain forest on high altitude excisting because of the mist that comes in from the Atlantic. Most of the time it is cold and misty. But on a clear day you have a fantastic view down to Hermigua. Walk behind the camping site to enjoy the view.
Take a walk in the forest. Walk to the Ermita Lourdes. Bring your own picnic! The air is so fresh and clean. A lot of moss on the trees. Tall trees and lush vegetation.

The walk from El Cedro to Ermita de Lourdes is along a beautiful wooded valley with a stream running down it. Not at all what I had expected to find in the Canary Islands. When you get to the Ermita, be sure to find the tree with water running out of it. How was that achieved?

We visited as part of a day trip on the island and found this place enchanting, so full of wonderful plants and trees the guide gave us lots of great information including the 10 meter high heather, yes heather.

And it is a must see on your trip. Will be back for sure

Very special experience, it is like walking in the past, very very old past...It is like woodlands looked like in the Mediterranean a few millions years ago. You can feel it, smell it, touch it, it is real Nature. Great. Be careful, even if the rest of island is sunny, it rains here a lot, basically you can just walk in the clouds, so it happens to be at least wet...I just love it.

We walked from El Cedro using the Ruta 18 up to El Contadero, a trop of approximately 7.3 km. Going from El Cedro the route is uphill most of the time, and the steepest part at the last 2 km (mostly steps). However, the green lush forest is absolutely worth the effort: you see different types of the Canarian forrest, hear many birds and meet only a few people, although this is one of the more popular routes. Walking this route makes you understand why the Bosce del Cedro is part of the World Heritige site (Parque National Garajonay).

To feel like walking back in time, when human beings had not yet appeared on earth. There are several accesses to the wood. The best is to hike from San Pedro upwards.
