If you're in Garmisch, Ettal Abbey is a short ride away - you should definitely take a couple of hours to see this imposing monastery. And working! The Benedictine order is running the place with manufacturing of cheese, beer and have school facilities on board....More

We stopped by on our whirlwind day of seeing the 2 Ludwig castles near Fussen, Oberammergau, Wies Church, and Linderhof. Next time, I would probably skip it as I liked the interior of Wies better, but it was definitely worth a quick look inside.

Parking is below the Abby and park and pay. For me the Abby was definitely worth a visit but we only spent about an hour here after seeing Linderhof Palace that was close by.

We stopped here after visiting Linderhof Palace. It was a cold, rainy day so we didn’t stay long but it is defiantly worth stopping for if you are in the area.

This abbey was small but there was no charge to enter. Inside was beautiful and the gounds and mountains outside were pretty

The setting of the abbey and the basilica itself are definitely impressive. We were less enamored however, with what is very obviously a big money-making operation using tourists to generate income. They have their own hotel and restaurant. They brew their own beer and bottle...More

This is a beautiful Abbey in the little town of Ettal. The doors always seem to be open in this place of peaceful contemplation and invite the visitor to enter and sit quietly and take in the beauty of the surroundings. This was our third...More

We were there at off season also. I think that the brewery is mostly open in late Spring/Summer. There was no tour of the brewery when we were there. There is a small gift shop. You can walk into the church and see the... More
