Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

“A long time a go in the Hunua ranges lived a group of people called the Patupaiarehe. The Patupaiarehe people couldn't get along so they split into two groups and went to their own areas. The chief of one tribe, Hunua had a beautiful daughter. Her name was Wairere. Wairere and a boy from the other Patupaiarehe tribe fell inlove. His name was Hui. Wairere and Hui tried to run away together. Hunua didn't agree with this love and chased and caught Wairere. He then drowned his daughter Wairere in the Hunua Falls. Wairere is so in-love with Hui that still to this day she pulls down any young man she thinks could be her love,
Only young men have had their lives stolen at the falls and its because Wairere is still searching for her lover there's more stories to what happened in this place and there spirits are still here today

We stopped here on our way from Snells Beach to the Coromandel Peninsula. It was on our way and was worth the stop. The road to this waterfall is sealed which is a plus. You can hear the thunder of the falls from the car park and it is only a short walk to the falls. There are two other walks available that give a view of the falls from different angles.

We visited the waterfall and really enjoyed it, you can get up quite close and there are good places to have a picnic, we also did one of the loop walks which was great fun, although be aware there is quite a lot of up and down and you do have to cross a stream at one point but well worth doing

Visited Hunua Ranges at the weekend with 3 other friends. Short drive from Auckland - around 40 mins. Parking was easy and looked as safe as it can be. We chose to take the 3hr loop option which we done in under 3hrs even though we stopped a few times and crossed a river! I saw online before the visit that there is a small 'stream' crossing needed to get to the path on the other side. Monsoon-like rain sure made that stream deeper! Being soaked through and caught in the rain we all decided to just walk across - if you are taking this route please be advised that rainfall can affect this crossing and its too late to turn back as you are only a hour from the end. The viewpoints along the way were great and also walk past a dam - after the dam the rest of the route it currently closed due to a storm but it redirects you road way back to the track. Route very muddy before and obviously after rainfall but the sun coming out almost instantly (typical NZ) sure made the views worth it. We done the falls last and ate our lunch sat at the base. Easy-moderate terrain up and downhill also a lot of steps for the parts with the highest incline. Prepare to get muddy and to have sore thighs the next morning!

Beautiful forest and waterfall. Easily viewed just a short walk from parking lot (on path to left of toilets) or cross the foot bridge and walk a trail for higher viewpoint, or to see from opposite bank. Afterwards be sure to stop at John Hill winery. Signposted on road out.

This is a great place for a picnic. The falls are about a 5min walk from the carpark. There are areas around the falls were you can set up a blanket and food. The falls are deep enough to swim in and to the right of the waterfall are some rocks kids can jump off. Also surrounding the falls are beautiful bush walks and scenic routes.

Tucked in the hunuas are the hubris falls. Take a small stroll with a packed lunch or snacks and enjoy a family day or a couples walk. You can swim if your game, feed the ducks or just chill and watch others

It’s really lovely, but it’s about an hour out of town each way. For a short visit it’s a long way. All sorts of warning signs about slippery rocks, cold water and uneven bottom, so it’s not recommended for swimming.

Great scenic drive from Auckland, best to do this trip in summer or the water will be to cold to swim and try to be brave and take a shower under the falls, not
