One of the most beautiful places I have ever seen! The boat ride was informative and fun! Worth the money to get out on the sound. We were lucky to get a beautiful day as it is in a rainforest. If you are willing to risk not getting a boat, they discount the late afternoon cruises on the day of. The hikes were beautiful and mirror lakes are unique and lovely! I strongly recommend seeing it at least once in your life! There is free parking if you are willing to walk about 20 minutes through a pretty forested pathway. Bring insect repellent for the sand flies if you choose to hike.

Helecopter gets so much closer to mountain peaks than a plane. Flies over the edges of mountains and exposes what climbers and trampers experience with doing that hard yards. Very professional and safety briefing is thorough. I felt extremely safe but in ore of the scenery. Well worth the money. Bucket list experience!

We had the misty, wet day experience in the Sound.
We were on a cruise and due to adverse weather conditions we had our day in Fiordland cut short, so only spent 30-45 minutes in Milford Sound.
The rain substantially reduced visibility, so you couldn’t see the tops of the mountains or into the distance. What you could see, however, were the magnificent torrential waterfalls created or swollen by the deluge. They were very beautiful pouring down vertically through the lush green vegetation.
I would love to go back on a drier day to experience seeing the whole vista, rather than just the closest bank.

We went on a tour with a company called Fiordland Tours which we highly recommend. We had a great tour guides named Jason who was fantastic and very knowledgeable on the local area. As a bonus he was very funny. Over all a great experience.

Absolutely beautiful place to visit stunning views. Very few people. Certainly very few places like it. Unfortunately it rains for 250 days a year. I’m sure and if it’s not raining it’s dripping off the trees

Wet day driving to the sounds. Little bid of snow. Have been here a lot of times.
New changes to look for. No more free parking. Charge is min 5 hours for $20nzd. No free wifi. Fuel priced.
Nice views in the mist hanging low.
Had something to eat and to drink and made our way back.

We drove along the scenic route and booked an online day cruise to Milford Sound. Milford Sound is the largest and most famous fjord in New Zealand's Fiordland National Park. The river extends 22 kilometers inland, and the cliffs intersect the water vertically. The glacier is cut into a V-shaped section, and the valley sinks, forming the landscape today. It is said that 365 days, the fjords have 300 days of rainy days. Fortunately, we saved enough character, ushered in a sunny day. Cruise through the valley, we see is surrounded by mountains, cliffs, streams, waterfalls, glaciers Yingying. Enjoy the moment at the same time, have to sigh nature's workmanship.

Milford Sound. Definitely a "bucket list" experience. An amazing wilderness fjord that has cliffs that go straight down in to the water to more than 200m. As it's open to the ocean, you will see seals, and dolphins/porpoises. During the wet season, there are magnificent waterfalls plummeting 100m to the ocean. The tour boat rides are excellent, and you will be on the water for around 2-3 hours. The only access to Milford is via a single road that goes through the mountain range. Also spectacular during the wet season with water falls. Best way to get to Milford is to stay the previous night in Te Anau and then drive in the morning for 90minutes, otherwise you will have to drive from Queenstown for 5-6 hours as the roads are winding and narrow making it very slow. But definitely go to Milford if you're on the south island.

The calm lake waters, the surrounded treed mountains and hills, the peaceful breeze, all add to the beauty of the Milford Sound area.

While staying in Queenstown we did the Great Sights tour of Milford Sound. I recommend you see Milford Sound, but not from Queenstown. The day is over 12 hours long in duration and the vast majority of that time is spent on a tour bus. The drive is about 5 hours there and 4 hours back. While the drive to is quite nice, if you are in NZ for any time you will see beautiful countryside. You spend about 2 hours on the water, which really is long enough. The drive back is in the dark. Not fun. If you're staying closer to the sound I recommend you see it, but do not go from a distance like Queenstown.
