Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A small waterfall and OK, it is beauty but not spectacular. Many of the visitors come here to do water play, swimming hole, jump from the higher rock cliff, a bit dangerous maybe, but a lot of people do this. Anyway, do the visit through short walking track 10 minutes through some steps, and crossing a small timber bridge over the stream, all for free. To reach this place you need traveling through local gravel road though, location is 8 km from Maungaturoto. In the rainy season or after heavy rain the water falls maybe bigger and more attractive.

Piroa Falls are magical, and only a short and easy 5 min walk each way. The pools are deep enough for a dip to cool off too.

There is a 6km drive up a gravel road to get to the falls but it is no poroblen even for a small car.
As I walked down to the falls I wondered why I was bothering as the river seemed more like a small stream so how could the be a good waterfall here?
Then the last few steps reveal the falls and they are really nice. There are shallow pools out can swim in or rocks to sit on and contemplate.
Well worth the small detour off the highway.

We made the trek out as was keen for a river swim on the hot day but signs from local council advised against swimming due to the bacteria.

A nice easy walk to some spectacular falls. The road in, while gravel is well maintained. The path is also well maintained.

Our family loved this falls trip. Drive was about 20 mins south of Waipu on a gravel road. Limited parking but we got there at 10.15 and had the whole falls and rock pools to ourselves for 30 mins. Just a short steep walk down to falls. It’s picture perfect.

The Piroa Falls are not the largest in the country. But their natural bush setting, quiet peaceful isolation, and series of pools, makes them a specular and rather endearing place to visit. I am sure the pools would be a pleasant place to swim. Highly recommended.

We had passed the turn off for these falls on numerous occaisions so decided to make the effort to visit. We parked and walked down a well maintained track, wandered along the edge of the river, crossed a very clever concrete bridge, walked through a shaded grove with a picnic table, round the corner and wow, there they were! Can't wait to go back in summer and swim.

Yep, another waterfall. Not many people go to this one even though it's not a long walk. Climb up the tiny 'path' to the right, rock hop across the top and go for a dip in the pool. Use your selfie stick to get a shot down the waterfall, it's pretty impressive! This is a hidden treasure :)

This is a small waterfall hidden away. It's a very short and easy walk into the gorge and it is worth the stop for a look. A lovely spot for a picnic.
