Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is very beautiful scene and track but it needs a bit hard effort to start. Either you from south or from north, if from north - the Waipu Cove beach side, you need to cross small stream and wet feet first before climb a small but very steep hill to reach the track. Then the remaining track would be easy and give you the best views as the reward. The pancake shape rocks, big rocks, medium rocks, in every unusual unique shapes will be encountered along the track. Moreover the ocean and beach below will add the spectacular horizon views. Better to take the visit in the summer time, while on winter, the track could be slippery.

Best to park vehicles at carpark opposite Waipu Cove Cafe and follow the Waipu Coastal Trail walkway (about 2-3 hours hike). Climb up the ridge to get a fabulous view of Waipu white sandy beach to the off-shore islands. Continue on the walkways and soon reach the beginning of the pancakes rocks lining the cliffs and beach (at least a km long). Keep clear of private properties and their electric fencing. About halfway there's a path down to the beach to view the pancakes rocks and enjoy a canister of coffee and snacks/lunch.

My husband is a geologist so we were mesmerized by the fascinating rocks and formations happening along this coast line. This is a great hike of moderate difficulty - well worth it!

This is a fantastic walk which is relatively easy going. You need good walking shoes and in winter it can get a bit slippery. The views are spectacular and the limestone pancake rocks amazing! Beautiful photo opportunities around every corner. Take a picnic and enjoy the breathtaking scenery

There is a good walkway (some wet stairs though) to see incredible the coastal rocks and blowholes with the Tasman Sea smashing up against the shore. Wonderful photo ops! The pancake rock formations were interesting and the coastal views were incredible. Highly recommended.

Great walk - the rocks and views are spectacular - you can even walk down and swim in the rock pools if it gets too hot! most ly easy but a few sections of the track are quite difficult and require some fitness/agility. Don't do it in jandels. and take some water in summer. I think this is one of the best short walks around

Track is very difficult in wet winter months. Had to turn back from entering at either end! This track needs upgrading work.

The pancakes rocks are 5 minutes away from the parking lot. They are an amazing feat of nature. Well worth a visit. Recommended age 7 onwards. Fitness level - average but be prepared to climb on rocks.

This is an absolutely stunning natural phenomenon. The Pancake rocks and Blowholes are definitely worth the short walk from the highway.
