- StahlaugeBagnols-sur-Ceze, France23 contributionsIf you search trips: Nicho from Bajang Enterprises Tour and Travel will help!We were visiting this Island for snorkeling. I specially want to mention our Tourguide “Nicho” from “Bajang Enterprises Tour and Travel” He knew all the good places arround and was planing our trips perfectly. His office is near the Ombak Vila. He is very kind and his service is awesome!!!Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 1 November 2023
- Peter P3 contributionsVery good retreat with possibilities to explore both, the local nature and the parties and night lifeGreat to meet new people. Local people are very honest and kind. Sometimes you need to work with the prices (snorkeling, etc.) - compare multiple places and negotiate. But in general, people don't want to abuse tourists and get unreasonable money (few exceptions). Lots of things to do: snorkeling (amazing swimming with turtles), diving, surfing, trips to other islands. For massages, I advice to go outside of resort - same quality, but authentic, half the price. I forgot my credit card at ATM, and hotel helped me to contact security guy, they found on CCTV who took the card. I had it back in 3 days. Amazing. Overall very nice place to stay for some 4-5 nights.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 27 November 2023
- Margaret SNapier, New Zealand593 contributionsA relaxing experience but please don’t overload the horse and carts. The best was that we chose a good and quiet resort, we could walk around this small island and we had good food, drinks and cheap massages. The poor side was that I paid a lot for pearls that were absolute rubbish. It was a roadside stall, so I should have known better. I was disappointed to see large tourists crammed the horses and carts full of themselves, their families and luggage. That was shameful, more than two people should hire two carts. Be aware that the roads aren’t signposted, the World War Two bunker was a great walk, you will find the concrete track access to the right if you walk the road beside the night market.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 January 2024
- SandyCinOZGold Coast, Australia58 contributionsAn Oasis in ParadiseGili Trewangan island is a gorgeous small Indonesian Island. It’s locally referred to as Gili T island. You need to catch a ferry from the Sanur (Bali) Ferry Terminal & the trip takes around 4-5 hrs. There is a Departure tax that has to be paid (cash only) at Sanur. You can easily travel around the island because it’s 2 kms wide & about 2 klms long. The island is noticeably quiet compared to more populated islands because the only modes of transport are: walk, bicycle, electric scooter or local horse & cart…..NO cars, NO trucks, NO motorcycles. NO hustle & bustle of people trying to sell you items & not many tourists were there. There is an ‘Arrival’ tax & ‘Departure’ tax for Gili T (cash only). There are many bars, restaurants, cafes, shops & beauty salons. Many of the restaurants have inside dining & dining/drinking on the beach, sitting either on beanbags or at tables/chairs. The sunsets are incredible to watch from the beach. We easily bicycled around the entire island every day (5 klms) & the views from different parts of the island are different & all beautiful. We WILL definitely travel back to Gili T island & stay longer next time 😊Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 24 January 2024
- Tony T4 contributionsFirst time on Gili TLoved our 4 days on Gili T. Nice and laid back with some great restaurants and bars. Love the fact there is no motorised transport, horse & cart or cycles. Had a couple of days diving with Manta Dive (seperate review), cycled round the island (takes about an hour), see turtles while snorkeling in front of our hotel. Will definitely return.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 April 2024
- Liisi R19 contributionsGood to dive, but not quiet place to another holidayLovely place. Good diving sites. Good food, friendly people. Only problem is the mosque, because the prayer call is taking 10min-2h. They also read and call there everything. So its not quiet place to stay. I recommend more the Gili Meno. There is also very much rubbish wich is very sad.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 April 2024

- SK loves to travelSingapore, Singapore60 contributionsDrugs on the streets!Beautiful island and beaches, however this review pertains to a far more serious issue- We are a family of 4 with two kids 15 and 12. On our first day we were walking from back from the sunset to our hotel and a guy shouted out “marijuana for you guys”? From a corner shop! We were shocked We thought this was a one off but it happened several times in the streets over the next couple of days, most guys were selling something called mushroom. It’s sad to see this being done openly. I saw many bag packers walking into small shops and coming out with small paper or plastic bags. It’s supposedly a paradise for young adults who are bay packing and indulge in this kind of stuff. I know I am a party pooper for them but this is a shout out to all parents who know about their teens wanting to go to such places.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 15 June 2024
- Mahesh ACebu City, Philippines210 contributionsZero Pollution..loved thatThis is an Island where no motorised vehicles are allowed. So no noisy motorbikes or cars .. no industrial factories .. ergo no pollution. If one wishes to explore there's plain pedal cycles , quaint but brisk horse carriages and of course one's own two legs to walk around on . Lol .. it's a paradise for fruits seafood and good fresh food . This island runs on it's own laid back laws and maintains itself admirably as far as law and order goes . Like Bali there's no choking restrictions as usually exist in some societies and so tourists are freely able to enjoy themselves as they would anywhere in the world. Of course there's reasonable bounds of behaviour expected from visitors . So many pros and such few cons. The only 2 things I'd say they could improve is 1. Another couple of jetties for incoming tourist boats to tie up on . Currently their jetty is always overcrowded and that creates daily boat delays upto 30 minutes to an hour sometimes. 2. Streetlights from 2 kms outside the Trawangan market are not always functioning correctly and the pitch darkness is a bit dangerous for senior citizens walking to places for dinner and back . Other than that it's a GREAT place and I'll CERTAINLY returnVisited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 24 June 2024

attention careful!!
on the 24th of January my boyfriend and I took a private tour on this "gili boy" boat and stole 400 rupees from our wallet!
we closed the tour the day before on the central street, on the day of the tour we separated 1,000,000 rupees and put it in our wallet because it would be our money to spend the day, we left the hotel straight for the tour and stayed 4 hours between the islands, we didn't buy anything during the ride. when we returned to Gili Trawargan we went straight to lunch and to our surprise when we opened the wallet that was in the purse it only had 600,000 rupees. Beware of private tours they took advantage of the moments we were at sea snorkeling to rob us!

Had the best time on this island!!! Was disappointed on Bali (there was just too much going on for us) so accidentally found this island and it was so cool! No transportation, only way to get around is bicycle or horse. So if thats your style, you will have a blast here! FYI there is a muslim mosque that talks on the intercom periodically throughout the day/night, so i would suggest finding a place to stay that is away from the city center. (We stayed at villa pine tree and LOVED it). Anyways, we were sad to leave. There are 2 other gili islands to explore, and them lombok is next door as well. Lots of snorkeling to do.

This is a nice island. A pretty chilled, unique but affordable location. Lots of fun to be had. However it has a dark side. There are no motorised vehicles on the island. Sounds cool. The major form of transport is bikes and horse drawn carts. Romantic? NO. The way these little ponies are treated is criminal and appalling. They work so hard in extreme heat, pulling heavy loads. They are whipped, yelled at and look in terrible condition. It’s not just a few. There must be 100 plus. We found it distressing. If you go, don’t use them. For me, it’s a reason to blackball the destination. Seriously.

There are only horse carts or cycles for transportation. East side of the island has restaurants, bars, shops and thus for people who like nightlife or more happening places. West side of the beach is quiet with few resorts. So before booking decide on which side you would like to stay. The horse cart takes 150K IDR to travel from one side to other of the island.
The sunsets on the west beach are beautiful. So if staying on the east do plan to visit the west beach in the evening.
We stayed for 2 nights here which we felt were just enough for us. Cycling around the island early morning was a fun.
The beaches are not so good especially in morning and noon time when it is low tide.

We have been to Bali countless time ywt never had the resolve to make a trip to the other smaller out lying islaznds. This time we made it to Nusa Penida and trio Gili Islands of Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air.. The three were covered in a 4 hours snorkeling group trip that cost Rp125000 per pax with equipment. No discount for using own equipment. Gili T is the main vubrant island which is commonly labelled as Party Island. Its main action are in the East with magnificent sunrise and daily partying till late. The West has beautiful sun set with many beautiful hotels. If you wabt peace and quiet but limited choice for foof then stay at the West. Or stay at the East and cycle to the West for sun set and back to the East for some action whether live music by beach front dining or all night long bar hopping and dancing clubs that line the beach. Truly enjoyable. Minimum of two nights stay recommended and longer to spce out your activities. It can be asclam or wild as you choose to be. I shall return very add soon for some calm and sporadic wildness.

I wonder why I did not consider visiting Gili Trawangan in my more than 20 years of visiting Bali. I ginally did in August 2022 and fell in love with the quietness of the day and the vibrant atmosphere at nights with spoilt for choices beach front dining of local seafood/steak/ribs bbq and Western and local food. Sunrise and sunset are both glorious which are easily accessible from different part of the island by an easy 20-30 ride by bicycle rented at Rp50000 per day. Some of the top choices resort I can suggest are: Beach House, The Pearl on the East Side and Lumi, Kardia and PinkCoco on sunset Side of the island. From Bali you have to travel 90-120 min to Padang Bai to board fast board for another 90 min journey. Gili T is also accessible from Lombok which is only 15 min by fast boat. Good to plan stay both in Lombok and trio islands of Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air. Gili T is the party island while the other two for quiet, romantic getaway.

There are definitely more beautiful paradise islands in the world but Gili T is very pretty!
Think white sand, crystal clear waters and gorgeous skies.
We were expecting a party/backpacker vibe but it was extremely quiet in June 2019. During the evening, there was just one bar (Jiggy Bar) that everyone had flocked to and was very naff but fun if you like that sort of thing. We stayed at Vila Ombak, which I'd recommend but it's very overpriced considering what you can get elsewhere in Indonesia.
Lots of honeymooners! Big range of hotels, restaurants, hostels etc.
Everyone travels the small island by bike. There are horse and carts that carry people and their luggage, which was sad to see...

If you are visiting Lombok, a trip to Gili Trawangan should be in the itinerary. Doesn't matter if you come with family or group of young friends. It offers the majestic sunset views, fun in the sun along the beautiful beach with sea turtles, enjoying a nice cycle around the island as cars and motorbikes are not allowed, party by the beach for the ones who likes the night life or a quiet night by the beach with the stars. The waves here aren't very strong, so you won't be able to surf.
If you are coming in a scooter, be sure to drive along the Senggigi coastal road for amazing view of the sea. Take the public ferry from Bangsal port. The ferry ride is only about 15-20mins idr23k. The ferry is not very packed even on the weekend so you don't need to pay extra for the private boats.
There are plenty of garages that you can park your scooter overnight safely at idr10k. You can leave your helmets.
Upon arriving gili trawangan island, if you have a lot of luggage, taking a horse cart maybe a good idea. Although the island is small, it is not that small either especially if your hotel is at the other side of the island. Alternatively, rent a bike for idr50k per 24hr.
The best spot for sunset is sunset beach at the bottom tip of the island. You might even want to consider house rides during sunset.
I know there are a lot of nice expensive cafes around. If you are a coffee addict like me, try Coffee & Thyme. Do try the warung for local food like lalapoe resto, warung lariz or pink warung kelapa. They are really good and inexpensive.
Perhaps you want to watch a movie by the beach with a bottle of bintang at Aston Resort?
This island is packed with activities to cater for all.

Gili Trawangan is a paradise island perfect for sunbathing, relaxing, and watching spectacular sunsets. But for all, you just need more becareful and negotiate with the proper representative offering their packages. Me and my friends taking a speedboat from Kenchinan to Gili Trawangan. Then we took snorkeling packages. Luncis h not good and not cheap. However, overall still okay within my range of budgets. For foreigners, you just need to search for more reasonable prices for each attraction package along the beach. Either you may get higher or lower with the same services. Cheers!

Going downhill. This is my 4th visit to gili T, twice before covid and the earthquakes, and twice after.
I would say I preferred it better before Covid times, I feel gili T has become way too busy and touristy and there is definitely a rubbish problem with a lot of the rubbish being burnt overnight. Prices have gone up, tacky foam party bars appearing on the west side of the island, lots more in construction that will change the face of the ‘ quiet ‘ side. Something def needs to be done regarding too many tourists here, it has changed so much since we first came in 2018! And not in a good way.
It is almost like gili T is trying to be like kuta in Bali. A lot of the local people who run the little shops hate it.
Will sadly be my last visit here… also, please walk and don’t use the horse and carts… that is what your legs are for… walking

Hi I am planning to visit Gili T in April and wanted to get some advise on prices for a fast boat from Serangan harbour to gili T ?
So far I have been quoted 1,250,000 for a return is this a good price or a rip off?
Would It be cheaper for me to pay for it when I arrive in Bali? or is there a company who are good and cheaper?
Any advise would be much appreciated
Dan

Hi Dan, serangan-gili trawangan route is in advertisements and brochures, but it apprears not a common route. I booked once for Rp. 550,000 but on the day the company said the route is moved to Padang Bai-Gili T, which is the most common route. The reason was weather/high wave. They refund the cost though and charged me Padang Bai-Gili T price which is 20% cheaper. Having said that, Padang Bai-Gili T is more certain route and the price is roughly rp. 500.000.

I am planning to go Gili islands this x-mas. How rainy it's gonna be , which of Gili has best beaches for swimming?

I think gili Meno is great for swimming, but really all 3 islands are fantastic.

Thank you for this information.
If I fly do I need to pre book the speedboat to Gili T? Also which is the most common port to catch the speedboat from Lombok to Gili T? (will most likely get a taxi from the airport in Lombok to the port). Thanks!
Written 4 November 2016
Depends on the time of arrival to Lombok you can take a taxi (Bluebird) from the airport to both Bangsal or Teluk Nare ports on the north west. Takes around 1.5 hour and 300 000+IDR. From those ports you can take any kind of transport to the Gili Islands on your choice. Public sea transport is the cheapest one and takes long to get full.
Latest transport leaves around 4-5 pm.
If you're arriving later than this then it is recommended to go to Senggigi for 200 000 by taxi and stay near the port (jetty on Senggigi beach) (Kila, Santosa hotels are good or other cheaper options to stay in this popular tourist area) and enjoy that area as well. You can arrange a transfer from this port (jetty) at any time both from directly their office near the jetty or from promotioners there. They offer only speedboats for persoanl use, a charter for any number of people. Start price is 1 mln for return. Ask for 650 000 return. The thing is the return should be on that day only. So you can arrange for one way only for a maximum 450 000. It is comfortable and fast rather than leaving form the ports on north west.
Good luck!

Thanks

Hi! Yes 3 nights is enough for gili T, there is no so much things to do there if you are not scuba diving. It's good for snorkelling and relax. You need just 1 day for visit the 3 islands

Hi,
Looking to travel to Gili T for a wedding.
Will be traveling with wife, child (2 years old) and grandparents (mid 60s).
Looking to stay at Vila Ombak, has anyone else been to the island with a young child and can advice if it was ok, or is it more of a party island not suited for families with kids?
Written 30 September 2016
Hello, I went to Gili T about 6 months ago. There are some really beautiful, quiet parts of Gili T that would be good to stay with kids and grandparents. The main side of the island where the boat port is can be a bit rowdy at night but during the day isnt too bad at all. We stayed at the Aston Sunset which is on the quiet side of the island (opposite side than the boat port) and would be perfect if your wanting to stay on Gili. We found that there are a lot of really quiet beach spots and to be honest we didnt see parties on even at night but we did go in the off season. Havent heard much about Ombak but think its on the same quieter side of the island. I would be mindful that when you pull up at Gili from any of the fast boats you have to walk through water and we had to stand in the heat for ages when we were boarding again so maybe let the grandparents know about that if theyre coming as well. Gili air is definitely quieter but it really depends on what your preferences
