The Eastern Southland Gallery is located the old library building. There is a collection of New Zealand art and a nice collection of African masks, sculptures and folk art all collected by a man named John Money.

The permanent exhibitions of Ralph Hotere and Money are a must see. I had heard about Money’s collection. It is fantastic that it is on public display. Hotere’s paintings are some of my favourites. This was a great visit. The building alone is worth stopping...More

Not as many exhibits as I'd expected. Many seemed to be of african origin. I guess Id expected more relating to New Zealnd.The actual building itself is interesting in its 1909 architecture which was great for a family photo op.More

if you're driving through Gore, stop! It has an amazing Art Gallery and Museum. I was so impressed with the professional presentation of Dr. John Money's collection. It also has New Zealander Ralph Hotere's contemporary works. Wonderful.
