- Steve CretneyCarterton, New Zealand4 contributionsSensational experience. Beautiful serene lodge and incredibly divine gardens make this attraction a must see.We have driven to Glenorchy a few times over the last 25yrs, but have never stopped in at Wild Dream Garden. Thomas has created an absolutely beautiful garden, full of amazing sculptures, some depicting early Māori life with Moa. The 29 years he has spent working on the lodge is easily quantifiable when enjoying a tour through his home. From a fish tank feeding the toilet cistern, to the many hundreds of hours cutting and fitting natural wood flooring, the lodge is a mastery of Thomas's incredible gift for everything natural and beautiful. A natural spring fed pond, is full of plump rainbow trout, glistening in the sun, as they move about blissfully unaware, I would like to cast a fly and enjoy some trout fillets. There is a spiral staircase built around a huge gum tree, with spectacular views over the garden and out to the lake. Beautiful Peacocks are abundant, which are drawn to you by clanging a fry pan. The serenity of this garden is but one of its many characteristics, which lure you in as you enter through the wonderful gates. We would happily visit again and felt the entry fee was worth every dollar.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 12 October 2023
- WellyannaUpper Hutt, New Zealand24 contributionsLike no other! What a special place this is! The owners and hosts, Thomas and Christy have created an amazing, welcoming place perfect for unwinding. The interior of the home has been decorated in a truly unique way unlike anything I've ever seen - the toilet cistern is a fishtank! Thomas is very artistic and in addition to redecorating the house he made the tables and chairs himself - the tables are single massive pieces of wood and are beautifully crafted. The garden is stunning, complete with peacocks, ducks, geese, chickens and fish. There are also a number of sculptures made by Thomas throughout the garden, and a huge gumtree with a staircase winding up to the top. It's truly mind blowing. Highly recommended.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 October 2023
- Gary B14 contributionsBeautiful garden. Artful B&B.The review is of the garden which is magnificent. People should be travelling from all over NZ to see this masterpiece of art and planting combined. We have visited many formal gardens all over the world and this ranks with the best. Thomas has also enhanced it with his objets d’art around every corner. Cristy showed us around the B&B as well which is stunning.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 November 2023

Wow! Such a surprise. We had left a botanical garden in Queenstown and happed upon this jewel. It’s out of the way but the couple who own it have put their heart and soul into the artistry of sculptures, architecture and landscape plus peacocks and ducks. You have got to go and see this magnificent place.

This amazing garden is filled with beautiful sculptures, thousands of breathtaking flowers, resident peacocks, ducks and assorted others. The owners have indeed created a small paradise. The artistic talent is unbelievable. Metal sculptures which are intricate and fascinating are around every corner. The peaceful location and lack of mobs of tourists make this a must-see for those looking for an off the grid magical experience

A must see on your travels to appreciate the art. Feed the peacocks. Walk the garden. Adults climb the spiral stairs up the tree. See the trout in the pond. And the amazing work that the couple have done inside the house.

This is unlike anything you have ever seen in your life. I stumbled upon this random turnoff with my 72 year old mother that happens to like roses and we saw a sign that says "3000 roses, point of interest" and decided to take 5 min, (that ended up being 2 hours). First we saw the gate and scuptures and then met the owner and sole caretaker and artist. This is like an eco friendly-earth ship-ecological message-hippie-artist-handmade-inventor-artist-wonderland that you truly cannot imagine. I actually cried and i'm a cynical atheist...this man...Thomas who created this place, personally showed us around and how he used nothing but like a hammer and rocks and regular glue to basically make a priceless work of art out of his basic home, is like a fairytale saint. It was such and honor to even know a person like this exists somewhere. Everywhere we turned there was more, including a handmade fairytale staircase to nowhere up a eucalyptus tree and and outdoor bathroom that when you flushed, pushed new, fresh water across a freaking LIVE fishtank with goldfish, and then made the handmade stone sink pour out water to wash your hands, while it was growing plants inside and watering them by traping water on a stick stuck to the roof...I mean...WHAT??? You have to see this to believe it. This is nothing anywhere else in the world. I would have paid $150 to see it. He should give lectures and teach workshops. This is just one guy and his wife. do not miss this. Bring a camera and a video.

We stopped here by chance as we were returning from Glenorchy. Very glad we did because it is one of the most interesting and inspiring places I have visited anywhere. The creativity and passion that this place exudes is a tribute to the owners. Do not miss it - well worth the beautiful car journey from Queenstown.

We drove past on our way to Glenorchy, so glad we called in on the way back. This place is probably the best $15 i’ve spent on all my trips down south. It is a must see if you like gardens. Note they don’t have eftpos, we didn’t have cash so we’re able to make a payment via phone banking. The hosts were very friendly and gave us a tour of the lodge, then we spent another hour exploring the gardens. They started 26yrs ago and there is an amazing amount of different plants, garden styles, wild life including fish, frogs, birds and peacocks, quirky statues, a tree house, neat buildings and the most amazing toilet! We called in on a sunny summers day and had the garden to ourselves, it was magical. Check it out, it’s definitely worth the drive.

If you are driving through to Glenorchy you will enjoy the fabulous scenery all of the way. Stop and put your toes in the water... how cool it is will depend on when you are there.....but PLEASE dont go past this garden, It is absolutely amazing. Sculptures of Yoga Poses through out along with some incredible other quirky artworks. The biggest Eel and trout you will have seen outside a river, pear trees, apple trees. Roses and hundreds of different plant species that again depending on what time of year you are there will be out. Geese, Peacocks, ducks.... seriously we actually were so overwhelmed by everything we hardly spoke to one another and even when we got back to the car we were still taking the visit in. This is a must do. $15 is worth every cent. You do it in your own time. Lovingly created by the owner who must be the cleverest man in the world to create some of these sculptures.... am still fizzy about it.

We spotted the sign for the garden on our way up to Glenorchy and decided to visit on the return trip to Queenstown. It was so worth it. An intensely planted space, absolutely full of vibrant colour and interesting statuary, all created and tended solely by one person over a couple of decades. We were warmly greeted and given a tour of the house which contains amazing pieces of furniture carved from massive pieces of wood, and walls covered with small stones collected from the river bank. We were so taken by the beauty of the property and the way it has been designed to make the most of the site. Truly unusual and highly recommended.
