The Punakaii Caverns are very easy to access from the pu,ic parking lot along Highway 6 at Pancake Rocks, don't miss it. Friends suggested we bring along a flashlight to help navigate some of the dark areas of the caverns. This really helped. You could spend 30 minutes here or 90-minutes fully exploring the wonder of the caverns. This is... More

We went at around 10:15 at night. When you first enter the cavern you don't see anything, but keep going further back into the cavern and you will see glow worms! Amazing to see them for free.

This is absolutely worth it! There are quite a few glowworms if you go deep enough. It was amazing! The cave was fun to explore and a great way to see glowworms for FREE!

Do the cave at night with a red headlamp to get the full effect of the worms. It's a little muddy inside.

We came across this cave when walking back from the blow holes and were quite excited to explore. It was a rather dark and gloomy affair ending in a small cavern.

Easy walkway down to the cave but you will need to bring your own torch/flashlight and good walking shoes. The rocks can be damp and slippery.

I have never been to a cavern and this is a good experience for me. If you want to fully explore the cavern, be prepared to get dirty. some parts of the cavern requires one to crawl or duck to very low levels. There is very little head room and might be difficult for giant size people. Definitely worth visiting... More

My husband and I explored the Punakaiki cave and it was really cool. We didn't have proper equipment but we're able to get pretty far back. Definitely recommend checking it out!
