The Pancake Rocks and Blowholes are another very interesting feature with a well developed support infrastructure for passing motorists. There's good sized car parks although the spaces are perhaps a bit tight for the bigger camper vans which were pulling in. The NZ Conservation dept. have built a nice walkway to the rocks and provide lots of interesting geological information... More

We visited 10 years ago, same month but it was high tide and windy and the effects were stunning. This time the tide was much lower and the effects were not the same. It must not be missed if in the area, just try to pick your visit at high tide.

On the drive up the west coast you come across this area with a large car park and shops. It is worth stopping off as the well made footpath to Pancake Rocks is astounding. There are various "stacks" of rock is another incredible geological landscape of New Zealand.

This place is amazing! Some very interesting rock formations and scenery! The walkway and signage is very well designed, even though there is a section that wheelchairs cannot access, you can still experience the amazing area. Highly recommended!

You must come to the West Coast of New Zealand to see the Pancake Rocks alone! Stunning landscape made even better by a very well designed walkway with plenty of look-out spots. A fairly easy 30 minute walk for people of most fitness levels. Would recommend a camera with a good microphone and shutter speed to capture the true wonder!

This little reserve is on the edge of highway 6 so well worth a stop to stretch the legs. The walkway is beautifully maintained and takes you on a 500m stroll through the vegetation to view the extraordinary Pancake rocks and blowholes. Well worth a visit - and free, although donations are requested

Visit here if possible early in the morning before the tour buses and also at high tide. Fantastic natural rock formations and when the swell comes in it blows spray up through the blowholes creating booming sounds. Absolutely marvellous. Just be aware that the sand flies on the west coast of New Zealand are ravenous little blighters and always on... More

A very interesting 30 minutes spent. A short walk to some very interesting views of the unusual looking rocks. The blow holes didn't compare to those elsewhere. Definitely recommended.
