We passed by the statue of Marquis Dupleix while walking beside the sea. The park surrounding the statue has been nicely landscaped.

This statue is a true traditional monument. It used to have a prominent location from what we heard. It looks fine in current surroundings. For better or worse he was a part of local history.

The statue at the end of the Rock beach looks tall, powerful, commands awe and respect. As I spied the monument against the expansive sea, his sorry end in life and solitary stand on the beach close to the ten-rupee public 'toilettes' lashing waves of memory rolled before me : I felt reverence and care were lacking in maintaining him as befits a Marquis. His countenance was defaced with avian faeces and his head is often the perch of crows. The Promenade beckoned me with the rocks and boulders guarding the shore with not grainy, not sticking, but soft and yet not too powdery sand.

Near the sea is the statue of Marquis Dupleix, who served as the governor-general of French India during the 18th century. It is approximately 2.88 meters high and was erected in 1870.

It is on end on rock beach lane near Asian house pub. Park your vehicle on parking and take a walk on that street you can see many monuments. It is not maintained well.

Joseph François Dupleix Statue: The garden on the northern end of Goubert Avenue near Promenade beach is usually populated by hundreds of joggers and morning walkers, but hardly anyone pays any attention to this statue - and rightly so, as Dupleix was mainly involved in expanding French colony in India, taking advantage of infight of Indian kingdoms as usual! So in my point of view,-some tall object existed there, and Govt. renovated it in 2014, and yes, let it keep standing there, so far it is not disturbing anybody!

In a small park, like a desolate statue, dirty and all alone.
You will see it the South end of the beach, and well.. feel sorry.

This is surely an classic example of not maintaining the old heritage monument. The statue is not very big but you can visit once in case you are nearby.
