Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The train from Waihi stops and turns around here. We popped into the café for a quick coffee and pie. There is not much time (about 20 minutes) before the train returns. The next train returns in 2 hours. Unfortunately many people get off the train and rush to the café, and it gets very busy. They had lots of eats available, but ideally one would love to sit down and enjoy a breakfast. The dining room is exceptionally beautiful, taking one back to a time our grandparents would have enjoyed. It is worth a visit.

Called in here while biking the trail between Waihi and Karangahape. It was 2.30pm and there were still people eating both outside and inside. Stood at the counter to order and the lady serving called out to other staff are we open or closed? No one could decide if they were or weren't. I said that doesn't make me feel very welcome and she said it's okay I'll serve you... so we ordered two cups of tea and was going to choose a slice that was in the cabinet and then she said we aren't making tea and if you choose something from the cabinet you have to take it away. I know they had probably had a busy day and they were probably all keen to go home. But if that was the case why didn't you put a sign up saying you were closed. They also had a sign in the cabinet advertising apple slice which was apricot slice.
I know that because they were discussing a complaint from another customer. We felt totally unwelcome and left. Wont ever go back again but that probably doesn't worry them.

Good food, reasonable prices, and a picturesque location. I enjoyed my burger and beer. Able to sit in the shade on the station platform and keep an eye on our bikes.

Have been a few times to this cafe over the years and it hasnt changed. The atmosphere is great, service and coffee fantastic. But please change the menu. You have to huddle with others (quite close) to read the black board menus. Would like to see some vegan and gluten free, salad options. Maybe a written menu, so you can choose at your leisure at a table.

I previously visited Waikino Station Cafe in February 2018 and I decided to visit again in 2019. Due to there being two Goldfield's train services operating from Waihi on the day that I visited there was more time to spend in Waikino and also ample time to spend in the cafe.

The cafe has a lot of treats on offer and the coffee was particularly good all at very reasonable prices. The station has a lot of history and it was nice to spend time there over a coffee and cake. Waikino Cafe is such a unique place and worth a visit whilst travelling on Goldfield's Railway.

The old Waikino railway station building was originally Paeroa's but brought to Waikino after public rail travel was finished, and the Waihi/Waikino vintage train was established for tourists and locals. The cafe ambience is very friendly and relaxed. The vintage Goldfields train can deposit travellers, but there are also bike racks and a good carpark outside. Lace table cloths, a fireplace for winter time, wall memorabilia, and enough food choices abounding, make this a popular visit and well worth it. I've been here before on a number of occasions, but coming with a recent widow and another friend made this a lovely outing and treat.

Very good coffee and great atmosphere. Their pies are excellent and the ginger crunch is the best that i have ever tasted (even better than my mum used to make - but please dont tell her!!!).

We had taken the Goldfields train form Waihi Beach to Waikino a short half hour drive but a lovely blast from the past so it was lovely to arrive at the cafe and find it also set back somewhat in time.

We stay at a table and ordered our food, Devon scones and tea which we quickly delivered to our table hot and delicious.

I spent time looking around at the memorabilia on display around us which was interesting. It would be lovely if the staff had also 'joined in ' a little' for fun too perhaps with what they wear- just sayin'! Signs around the place also spoil the authentic feel somewhat and could be done so much better.
