We had an amazing drive (by scooter) up to the entrance. The sharp curves, the hights, the views to the path ..... wow. Then the hike to climb to the site. One wonder how they managed to build up there back then.

The drive to the entrance was impressive enough. But I also really liked the site, spread out on top of a hill near the modern town of Kamari. Views are really spectacular from the top. Ruins aren't in the best condition but cover quite a...More

Probably nice when its open. Greece though is not great for maintaining their historical sites. There is a fee to enter. You can enter by walking or by car (there is some parking on top). I suggest take the car as this is 2 km...More

You need to be quite fit to get up here or face a hair raising drive. Not as much to see as we had expected and little information. It's also quite blustery so don't forget to layer up.

Well worth the visit if you get the chance... Good value for money but if your going to walk to the top make sure your physically fit, or catch local bus, taxi

For archaeology enthusiasts, the ruins of ancient Thira are not to be missed, although I wouldn't regard it as an easy place to visit. In comparison to Minoan-era Akotiri, Thira was built well after the volcanic explosion that laid waste to the island for many...More

The trip up the switchbacks is hair-raising, to say the least. We took our tiny rental car up the mountainside, and my children in back were incredibly nervous and clutching each other!! Thankfully, we only encountered one car on the way up and that was...More

The walk through Ancient Thera was incredible! It was amazing to think that people used to live at the very top of the caldera. The views were unobstructed of the marina and boats touring the caldera. Well worth the drive up the narrow road and...More

I'm not sure of the opening time. However I recommend that you ascend in the morning as it is fairly strenuous climb, and doing it in the heat is not good. Obviously, have suitable footwear and take water. It is worth the... More
