Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It might be a long dusty track out to Lake Taylor but it’s well worth it. The lake is packed full of trout and there is a small Doc campsite there, basic but pleasant.
If you don’t mind some seriously pot holes roaring you can cycle from Lake Taylor all the way to Loch Katrine. If you don’t want to go the whole way then grab a picnic and a camera and just enjoy the day.
Remember it is farm land so keep the gates closed be hind you and be respectful.

A beautiful lake for swimming (cold though) and fishing that gives foot and boat access to Lake Sumner. The access road is definitely for 4WD and high clearance vehicles, walking or biking.
There is access to huts (Loch Katrine association) and other private baches at the end of the lake.

The lake Sumner conservation area includes Lake Sumner, Lake Taylor and Loch Katrine. The are is high in the mountains but easily accessible from Christchurch by car, it takes about an hour and the trip is very scenic. Once at the lake you can pay $6.00 per person to camp in the camping ground or find a sheltered place further on where you can camp alone by the lake (no fees but no toilet). The lake has some good fish (Trout) and is suitable for swimming and boating. The area surrounding the lake is good for hunting and tramping. Just note it can get cold in the mountains so even in summer be prepared. The lakes are also known for being windy, which can effect your ability to paddle you canoe back to shore so be aware. Some pasture areas but much of it is covered in manuka and some areas have native forests.
