Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This museum is MUCH larger than you would expect and combines artefacts from the surrounding area along with a car collection. There is even history about Hamilton Jets. We were lucky to have Garry to show us around. He is a local who is passionate about the museum and has a good depth of knowledge. I didn't expect to see a stagecoach or wagons but they have so many buildings you can spend as long as you want. The little cottage on site gives a good idea of how they lived 50 to 125 years ago.
When you have finished seeing the museum, take the time to sample the cafe which is at the front and does delicious food. Yumm.

Stopped in here for a short break, and a coffee while driving from Tekapo to Christchurch. Cool organic food items for sale. Nice coffee. Take it for what it is. Nice place to have a coffee and a break from driving.

The museum gives a thorough insight into Fairlies history. One of the volunteers showed us all the old cars and explained every piece in the “the old days section”. Cafe is run by Swiss people (a little unsure on that - maybe there from the Swiss-German border) and over lovely coffee, cakes (yes, cakes!) and snacks. Place to be!

Had morning tea with wife, kids and the dog. Excellent cakes and coffee. Although it's on the main road it still felt very relaxed.

Fairlie Heritage Museum is a charming local center of history presented in an enthusiastic amateurish way that makes is most enjoyable.

The exhibits have a dusty appearance and you will feel as if you're wondering around stuff just thrown in a barn, yet it is all logically collected and marked. Exhibits include household implements, I saw my parents Goblin Vacuum Cleaner from the early 50's, lots of old familair packaging, old tools and a terrific collection of old motor vehicles and farm equipment.

A very unique item is a WW2 Morris truck with a locally made body using old metal ammunition boxes.

There is old furniture, horse drawn vehicles including an American Concorde Coach similar to one's that ran the local service to Mount Cook. Tons of horse related items, samples of musical instruments and a large collection of early cameras.

Local buildings have been moved to the location including the railway station and the jail.

The Museum has active and enthusiastic volunteers. In our case a mid week visit meant while we had tea a volunteer was contacted to show us around the huge barn containing the motor vehicles. He drove up while we finished our snack and polished a car while we browsed unhurried around.

The Museum Cafe has some great coffee and desserts.
