This is the beautiful town of Licata, in the south of Sicily Island, not so far from Agrigento.
A lot of tipical Sicilian Restaurants.

We highly recommend Marina di Cala del Sole for those in search of a safe harbour to berth their boat. It is only four years old - very clean, and well maintained with some nice grassy areas. The marina is well priced for staying over winter. There are good facilities both in the Marina and the town of Licata with two chandleries - one in the marina and one closer to the commercial port. Andrea at the marina chandlery is particularly helpful. A fabulous well stocked supermarket within a sizeable and modern shopping centre is located next door to the marina.

Licata itself is a hidden gem with the most fascinating history, friendly locals and wonderful produce. The longer you stay the more you uncover so it's a great place for long term berthing. In addition facilities are provided to encourage a healthy social life with an area for BBQ and finske or bowling which is regular every Sunday as well as a popular cafe/bar for Friday night drinks (or any night).

The friendly and always obliging staff at the marina reception (Nino, Maria and Emi) and the onsite managers were on call 24 hours per day to assist our needs in a friendly and prompt manner. They would go out of their way to ensure we were happy.

We are considering returning to Marina di Cala del Sole and one of the primary reasons would be the fabulous service provided by Elia Di Prima from Boat Service who acted as caretaker whilst we were away and was able to offer exceptional mechanical and fibreglass repairs as well as coordinating other services. He was even willing to arrange his barber for our three boys! Electrician Giuseppe Vedda was able to repair anything he put his hands to giving us the peace of mind we needed. Both these gentlemen were very professional, well priced and would bend over backwards to help you.

We highly recommend Marina di Cala del Sole to sailors considering short or long term berthing.

We have just returned back home from checking our boat in the marina Licata , we are surprise how much the marina have changed in just a month , we arrived back to find the marina has turned into a battle field , with the most unhappy bunch of cruisers I seen in years , the problems range from security which is very poor in the marina to fire exit which have been Screwed down thief from boats and showers but the bigger problem seems to be that the marina have decided to introduce an yacht club and in doing this they have taken away a room which was offer to all the cruiser, we know of this because we was told about this room when we visited the marina last spring and again when we arrived in October ,the cruisers room was advertise on the marina webs site before they they change the webs site lately , The room was use by the cruisers to hold keep fit classes ,Italian lesions , and a place for skipper to hold there meeting now every one is being forces to join their new club to be able to use the room , At a cost of 10 euros per person , it seems the marina don't under stand how important this room is for the cruisers and have totally missed judge the situation ,
we are so glad we are not there for the winter , is a shame because the marina and town is such a nice place we will return back in March to stay a month before going cruisers we hope the marina have the sense to solve this problem before we get back , other wise the marina could end up going like so many marina have gone in the past a marina where people just dump there boats and go .

Dear Sal , thank you for your complaint, always well accepted as an incentive to do even better. The room you speak about has always been destined to the Yacht Club, as it has always written on the outside windows and on the table and the sign on the wall. The room has never been included in the service list of the marina, either in the emails or on the website; the free access was allowed for some weeks just to try it, while the Club was created . The Yacht Club is an important element, present in all modern marinas, it serves to give benefits to the members, to organize private events and reinforce the feeling of a community for resident boaters. The only difference between our Yacht Club and the others is that our Membership Card costs only 10 Euros/year . Almost all resident boaters became members and they all look satisfied with the services of the marina. The only incidents of theft have been reported by one single boat (1 over more than 200); the security have been reinforced, either through the staff and a professional security company, and we are installing locks on the gates . Unfortunately, it is impossible to make everyone happy , the management and all the staff will always work as well to solve all the little problems that can happen.

Having previously reviewed this marina I thought it fair to update with improvements made here. The benefits previously mentioned still exist... Almost perfect protection from any sea state or direction. We have been here from Oct 2013 till now ( March 2014 ) and despite some pretty hairy winter storms we have never experienced swell or severe chop.
The staff remain extra ordinary in their helpful enthusiastic approach to cruisers.
My only previous concerns were shower facilities and security. The showers have been upgraded and there is now constant hot water 24 hrs a day as hot as could be wished for.
There are security patrols round the clock. Many cruisers have expressed a strong preference for avoiding being fenced in by physical barriers and aesthetically the marina is far better for an open aspect.
Therefore I am happy to say an already great marina has been improved. The marina management have taken onboard the concerns of cruisers and improved facilities where needed. For the price there cannot be a better, safer, more comfortable marina in the Med! Infact at any price you would be hard pressed to find better!

This is a new marina with excellent facilities and superb staff. It has great protection from the sea although it has been laid out poorly with the predominantly westerly winds beam on to the moored boats.
This would certainly have got a 5* rating from me but for 2 problems.
1. There is NO SECURITY! I have never been in a marina with no security at all. No CCTV, No access control gates, NOTHING! There have already been 2 boats broken into. There is a constant flow of rubber neckers and spectators walking up and down the pontoons staring into boats. As soon as the local oiks work out what a soft target boats and yachties are this place is going to be taken to pieces. For this reason alone I would not come back to Licata and cannot recommend it.
2. The toilet facilities are inadequate and there is no hot water for showers. Sounds picky but as a liveaboard a hot shower is a pretty big deal! Especially in the cooler months.

Its a shame as other than these problems its a great place.

Dear Mark , I am very sorry to read that you don’t feel comfortable in Marina di Cala del Sole , we do our best every day to provide good services in this new marina. In the two years since the opening of Marina di Cala del Sole, more than 2.000 boats passed through and incidents of damage or theft were 2 or 3. The staff is always present 24 hours a day, every night of the year and oversees at all times, but the area is really big; the harbor entrance is guarded by cameras , and there are automatic barriers for cars. Marina di Cala del Sole is an integral part of the city and people can walk inside; docks and pontoons are fenced and we will improve it with safety locks in the gates. We always recommend to consider the boat as your own home , so always closing the entry hatch and lifting the footbridge. We will however improve the security checks. The bathrooms of the marina have water heaters by 300 liters each and solar panels, we are already increasing their capacity. The taps of the showers are not temporized, as in other marinas, so it is often consumed more water than expected. Thank you for your complaint and suggestions, our office is always open for every need. I hope to see you soon to talk about the improvements we are doing and that we could do!

Excellent staffing, clean, spacious, directly in the town, supermakert/shopping mall, great vegetation ample spaces for your yacht and

delightful staff catering to your every need at any time...on arrival we were met at the harbour entrance by a cortesy boat escorting us to our mooring place and each and every time you go and come they are to assit. Any complaints, suggestions are attended to and implemented as soon as possible. The openness of the marina does create a va-et-vient of locals who are attracted by so many beautiful yachts...we would hate all the locked gates and CCT cameras on every corner excluding us from meeting the towns folk and making us into animals in a zoo.

Whilst this is our first season as a "live aboard" and we don't have any direct comparison to make, I think this marina certainly has set a high bar for our future expectations for a wintering location and Mediterranean stop over point.
The marina is nicely sheltered from all points of wind, there is plenty of room for boat manoeuvres to access your berth and the facilities are excellent. A good supermarket, laundrette, chandlers and shopping centre are very close by, but the best attribute is the marina staff who are charming, and nothing is ever too much trouble for them.
I would certainly recommend the marina to anyone who wanted to spend a short stay or a winter stopover.

We are wintering in marina di cala del sole 2013/14. We are very happy with all the facilities in the marina complex. The staff are the high point of the marina, they could not be more helpful, the ladies in the office and marineros are all excellent. It is a very well sheltered marina? Licata town is a very sicilian place, with everything in easy reach from the marina. As has been said a huge supermarket and shopping mall is literally on the doorstep! We would not hesitate to return here, and at €1000 for 7 months for a 12m yacht, it offers amazing value.

The marine is an unexpected gem in what is a slightly scruffy town.
The marina is kept very clean and tidy.
Facilities include probably the most helpful and reasonably priced marina chanderlry I have seen.
Cafe is perfect
Staff at marina especially Maria and her husband are so welcoming and speak many languages perfectly. Both I.g is too much trouble even running us arou f town in their car to help out with some odd items.
Definitely a good place to visit or over winter.
Local street life is impressive in the evening and loads of restaurants and street food.
Support this gem on scilllys West coast they really deserve it.
