Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Henley lake Masterton offers lovely strolls around the lake or go a bit further and walk around the wetlands as well. Nice dry laid out paths to walk on and lots of hungry ducks and swans hoping you brought them a treat . A nice relaxing place. Also toilets, a shower for campers to use and limited free stays for self contained vehicles. Free bbq area and tables at the north end of the lake.

Henley lake is pretty and quiet. Not many people travelled so youc an enjoy some peaceful moment by yourself or with the ones you go with. Well, maybe you can be friends with some friendly ducks!
It is very close to the Queen Elizabeth Park, just a few minutes drive.

Excellent peaceful walks around an attractive lake and riverside area, easy access. The walks vary in length, up to 5 km for the longest possible circuit, which I do regularly because it is an exceptionally good way to get exercise, there are plenty of seats along the way if you want a rest, and a range of intriguing sculptures as well as exercise equipment.

I loved Henley Lake and particularly its bird life, but my friend and I were shocked at the noise and disturbance coming from the model speed boats. We met a young woman who lives across the road and she said she cannot invite people to her house on Sundays because the noise makes it difficult to talk to each other, let alone have a peaceful visit. We felt the activities of the speed boat crowd must also be detrimental to the ducks, coots, swans and other bird life on the lake. And a nearby rubbish/dog poo bin was overflowing.

It is a nice lake with park and it should be. However, too many ducks and swans mean too many poos and loose feathers at the lake perimeter ground. And at the parking space, we found a kind of freedom camper van, not a good combination with public space like this.Combine your visit with the neighboring much better park, Queen Elizabeth Park, less than 1 km away from this lake, so you can fairly compare them.

What a shame to go for a walk around the lovely lake surrounded with rubbish :(
I was visiting from Greytown and planned on a walk and maybe a spot of photography. The rubbish really bothered me so I spent the next 2 hours cleaning it all up myself in an old broken washing basket I found (I was told it had been there at least 2 weeks) that noone had bothered to pick up. I filled it 6 times. Transfering the rubbish into the bins.
Masterton needs to buck up there ideas and tidy and care for there own backyard.
Was alot of polystyrene I was worried that the birds might eat. Along with plastic bags, plastic milk bottles, food wrappers cosmetics, drink bottles and much more.

i was a bit scared of the swans and geese that thought we had food but they soon went away. The walk around was lovely. You could choose from a short, medium or longer walk. We took the medium walk that went through the trees. The shorter walk went around the lake. there is a park there for the children, it looks like it is used for model boat racing as there is an area with tables and a ramp. also they had areas for picnicing and bbq. It is well set out and good for all ages. the paths are good for buggies and wheelchairs. A pleasant morning spent at Henley Lake.

I lived near Masterton for years and never knew how abjectly beautiful the walks around Henley Lake are. It wasn't until I organised a Fun Run that I actually got around it, and was gobsmacked at how special this place is.
There are a variety of walks you can do on various trails, so you could have anything from a short walk around the lake to a longer one around the trails. It's well-cared for by various groups in the community, and credit to them, too.

This artificial lake is adjacent to the Ruamahanga River in NE Masterton. Fresh water flows in from two streams. Firm limestone tracks are ideal for walking (with or without dogs), but watch where ducks have deposited overnight on the tracks. Native trees and shrubs are regularly planted by school children and by "Friends". Birdlife is varied by season, but mallard ducks are common, with both white and black swans. Flights of Canada geese use the lake as a resting place. Native birds are likely to be seen in the trees, especially near the BBQ area to the north. Dragon boat racing crews and model-boat builders can often be seen, especially on weekends. A number of additional tracks branch off the lakeside track, and all are well sign-posted. Plenty of vehicle parks are available to the north, and to the west from Colombo Road. A balloon festival in March often uses Henley Lake as a launching and "quick dip" site.

It is really good to have a place where dogs are not only allowed but encouraged!
Great walking tracks around the lake and into the wooded areas. Dogs are allowed off lead which is another plus.
A great amenity for the Wairarapa.
