Lovely to combine this with the rest of your coastal day trip! Take a few breaths in between, but the view up at the lighthouse is rewarding. You can see seals from up there. Overall time needed: 30 mins. Bring: windproof jacket.

Really great views of the Palliser Bay and a scenic drive to get there. Make sure you have your camera!

Beautiful view from the top once you ascend the 252 Steps. The lighthouse is impressive up close and the views are amazing. There is a small amount of unsealed road leading up to the car park but it's we'll worth the effort. The drive along...More

There are really 2 attractions at Cape Palliser (excluding looking at rocks which offered another 2 options if that's your thing) - going to the lighthouse and visiting the seals. I did it by myself as a day trip from Wellington, stopping in Featherton and...More

Make the effort and climb the steep staircase to the lighthouse. it was a bit breezy the day I went but nature paid me back with excellent views of the coast. Another attraction is the seals, hard to spot-they look a bit like the rocks!...More

I suggest to combine this with the walk to see the Pinnacles. It's about 30 mins drive further along the coast and is well worth the effort if you want to experience the remote rugged beauty that this area has to offer. We had the...More

The road leading to the light house are gravel ones and need to be taken with care. There is also a long drop toilet at this site. The assent up to the light house is a steep 251 steps, well worth the climb tho with...More

Stunning part of the country with jutting rocky outcrops and turbulent seas. The lighthouse offers impressive views of the landscape, and is worth the hike to the top. Seal colony was a big highlight, and I was fortunate enough to go during seal pup season.

The only thing we didn’t get on our much-anticipated trip to the lighthouse was driving rain and hail: that came later in the day! What we did get was gale force wind, particularly when we reached the top. But the spectacular setting, the scenic drive...More

We drove to Cape Palliser from Lake Ferry. The road was ok for most of the way but it turned to gravel and became only one lane near the lighthouse. There are over 200 wooden steps to climb if you want to see the lighthouse...More

Rail on one side, I thought steps were in great condition and reasonably wide and evenly spaced (in Sept 2018) - maybe they were replaced recently. They are not very wide though (ie I would not go down while someone is... More

Not sure this question makes sense - it's a 2-2.5 hour car jouney from Wellington to Cape Pellusa - Probably about an an hour from Featherston in each direction. You would not use a shuttle service - either self drive... More
