The road in is gravel and challenging but no 4WD needed to arrive safely to the base of the lighthouse on a black sanded beach. We were encouraged to climb the stairs, sheltered from the wild wind blowing on the beach,by a family group coming...More

The black beaches and the winding road towards the lighthouse was enough for us. We also had a nice stop in Ngawi.

The road to Cape Palliser takes you along the coast line, and at times almost drops you off into the ocean. Take the time to find some New Zealand fur seals hidden among the rocks - - - we almost missed them as we thought...More

To get to the lighthouse, the journey is very scenic and interesting and a bit bumpy as some are dirt and gravel roads! There are many steep stairs at the lighthouse so not suitable for people with poor mobility or height issues! However you can...More
