Lovely view from the top of the stairs! Steep steps so be prepared for some leg jelly when you finish! Well worth it though. The seal colonies are amazing and I saw a huge range of seals. They are happy enough if you keep your...More

This far south eastern corner of the North island is not to be missed. The drive along the coastal terrace is beautiful on a fine day, but the weather can get really wild! Arriving at the lighthouse is just stunning - stiff climb up to...More

Lovely to combine this with the rest of your coastal day trip! Take a few breaths in between, but the view up at the lighthouse is rewarding. You can see seals from up there. Overall time needed: 30 mins. Bring: windproof jacket.

Beautiful view from the top once you ascend the 252 Steps. The lighthouse is impressive up close and the views are amazing. There is a small amount of unsealed road leading up to the car park but it's we'll worth the effort. The drive along...More

There are really 2 attractions at Cape Palliser (excluding looking at rocks which offered another 2 options if that's your thing) - going to the lighthouse and visiting the seals. I did it by myself as a day trip from Wellington, stopping in Featherton and...More

Make the effort and climb the steep staircase to the lighthouse. it was a bit breezy the day I went but nature paid me back with excellent views of the coast. Another attraction is the seals, hard to spot-they look a bit like the rocks!...More

Rail on one side, I thought steps were in great condition and reasonably wide and evenly spaced (in Sept 2018) - maybe they were replaced recently. They are not very wide though (ie I would not go down while someone is... More

Not sure this question makes sense - it's a 2-2.5 hour car jouney from Wellington to Cape Pellusa - Probably about an an hour from Featherston in each direction. You would not use a shuttle service - either self drive... More
