About
Southern Lake Taupo Adventure Mini Golf is a fun way to spend a couple of hours. This is quite a challenging 18 hole course based on the terrain of the Central Plateau! Volcanoes, canyons, rivers - all have to be overcome before you reach the last hole.
Duration: 1-2 hours

This is a fun mini golf course! We had a lot of fun and the theme of course reflecting the local was great. One of our balls got stuck in the pipes but the staff used a leaf blower to get it out which was a good laugh. If you are in the area and have an hour up your sleeve I recommend trying this mini golf course!

Possibly one of the best mini golf courses we’ve been to within NZ (big statement we know). Our joyful cheers echoed around Turangi this morning, as we swiftly moved from hole to hole, each containing new obscure obstacles for us to battle our way through. We cannot recommend it enough, bring your children, friends, housemates, lovers or anyone in between! Guaranteed fun to be had for ALL!

Don’t drive past, pull the car in, get into the competitive zone and enjoy the 8th lesser known wonder of the world.

Me and Master 5 loved our putt around. Such a fun mini golf course with plenty to keep the little guy wanting to keep playing. Really fun course - highly recommend.

This course used to be much better but it has become quite tired and dilapidated. On at least 2 of the holes our balls got stuck in the pipes that are meant to transfer your balls from one part of the green to the next and we had to knock another ball in to get it out and use the club to pull them out; this was not bad golf but broken bits/raised parts in the pipes. They have also increased the price and you can see the old price under the sign, once $7.50 for an adult, now $15 but no improvements have been made. We had a fun enough game but not particularly impressed.

This mini golf was a good way to spend an hour or so. One of the holes was so difficult I gave up, and in another couple of holes one of our party got a hole in one (I missed out by inches, bother!). The mini golf is fairly well maintained, and

when ever we're traveling north and need a break we always just this as a means of a boredom breaker - and to have a heap of fun at the same time.
The course needs a bit of attention in places but boy is it fun, and it brings out the competitive sprite in you.
Highly advised

An admittedly slightly exclamatory title, but it was a truly excellent mini golf course. And with the exception of Pirate's Cove in Florida (about which there is an undeniable fog of distant nostalgia), I would say it is definitely the best I've played, and I've played a few! Even my wife grudgingly admitted to enjoying it, which is no small testament in itself.

The holes are incredibly well considered, with themes relating to the local area which are executed brilliantly to create varied challenges within a very aesthetically pleasing environment. There is even a moving raft on one hole and hidden motor to raise your ball and drop it out from near the top of a volcano on another. Thoroughly recommend for all.

A very fun Mini Golf Course, with holes named after local attractions. Some really tricky holes, but that just makes a hole-in-one more of an achievement.

The seven us rolled up, tired and irritable and barely talking to one another, to Southern Lake Taupo Adventure Mini Golf one fine Sunday afternoon. By the time we left an hour later, even the Old Curmudgeon had softened into easy laughter. How did this happen?

1. Exceptionally friendly service. I didn't get the name of the woman who served us but she made us feel very welcome indeed, like guests in a friend's home.

2. Ingenious course design. We didn't think it could get any better after hole 1, where you have to hit the ball onto a moving raft in order to get it nearer to the hole. We were wrong! This course comprises 18 pieces of world-class mini golf design, each as fun and ingenious as the last, and each based on some aspect of the region. The Tongariro Crossing hole, for example, takes you on a pilgrimage through snow-capped concrete 'mountains', while the Turangi Hydro hole invites you to hit the ball through pipes to reach your goal.

3. Holes that are fun for any ability level. Miss the raft on that first hole? No problem! The ball just pops out of the stream in another area slightly further from the cup, rather than making you retrieve it and go back to the start. After a few holes, your stroke tally becomes secondary to simple enjoyment at playing each hole.

4. An adult rate of $12 for 18 holes. This is pretty standard pricing for mini golf in NZ, but the quality of this course makes it a bargain. Plus you can play a second time on the same day for half price!

Looking at the many photos we took afterwards, I was surprised to notice that Southern Lake Taupo Adventure Mini Golf is located right next to a busy supermarket and car park. It was as if my delight at the course melted the outside world away. If you have an hour to spare in Turangi -- even if you're passing through! -- give it a go.

We came to kill some time prior to a wedding held just outside of Turangi. My son summarised it best when I said this is the best mini golf course ever. The course was challenging and very well themed. Many interactive holes. The only downside is that some of the greens need cleaning/repair and were slippery. This is caused by the many water features of the course, a few where your ball actually goes through the water. This is the only thing preventing it getting 5 stars from us, and really it is minor and did not take away from the enjoyment for any of us.
