A fantastic, highly educational centre with so much interesting information. Both of our kids were fascinated with the various exhibits and especially loved the earthquake simulator. Lots of cool hands on displays from getting to light up all of the key volcanic locations in the area on the large central map, to being able to feel of all the different types of rocks. Well worth a stop and important to understand the forces that have, and will continue, to shape our wee isles!

We were really disappointed with this. The best part was the volcano around the entrance to the building. The kids ended up more interested with the pamphlets in the I-site. We were only on the volcano part for five minutes, there was nothing really to catch their attention like the outside of the building does.

We are very disappointed you and your children did not enjoy your visit. First and foremost the centre is an educational science museum and as such is there to provide information on volcanic activity. We generally find that for young children to enjoy the centre they must have a strong interest in volcanoes first or they will find little to interest them. We are surprised at your negative comments as the centre has entertained many thousands of children who have enthusiastically enjoyed their visit.

Me and Mr 5 were not that impressed by our visit - especially for the cost, it was quite expensive. We went through twice and were still finished in 20 minutes. The staff in the iSite were not overly friendly, helpful or welcoming. Would recommend you just take a photo out the front and save your pennies. This kind of exhibition should be free or a gold coin.

This was a better experience than expected for our family with a 3 and 5 year old. Both of them, especially the 5 year old, have developed some nervousness about the concept of earthquakes and volcanoes, but they came out of it appearing more comfortable. The video feature about Christchurch required some parental guidance. Both were very uncertain about the earthquake simulator when we arrived, but by the time we left they were treating it more as an amusement park ride, and it was challenging to get them out. (The rule is one ride per customer, but nobody else was there when we visited soon after opening, so we used it a few times.) There are many buttons to press around the exhibits. Most only light up LEDs on maps to show where things are happening, but the kids just enjoyed pressing things and seeing stuff happen. There's also a microscope for looking at different types of rock, with a screen rather than an eyepiece, which they both enjoyed. If there could be an improvement for our own experience (and really the reason for 4 stars rather than 5), everything would have been about half a metre lower to the ground. There weren't any stools nor anything for shorter kids to stand on, so we ended up doing a *lot* of carrying and lifting up to see things happen while they pressed stuff.
