Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Staying here for a few days and immediately fell in love with this beach. Just been to Waihi which is much busier. The sand and the scenery are much better. We are not too bothered about surfing or swimming and much prefer to read, listen to music and walk on soft, sandy beaches.

Do not bother stopping in this town. There is NOTHING to do! We got there at about 3pm and really struggled to find a place to eat as they all close at 3pm! It was like a ghost town!
The mini golf is only open on weekends and only when the weather is good.
If you can, drive through it.

What better way to while away a hot afternoon, but at the harbour with the kids for a true kiwi experience. Good old fashioned fun jumping from the wharf. There’s so much more to do here though, the ocean side has the best surf and both harbour and estuary for perfect for many other water sports.

Long clean protected beach but the water is cold (certainly by Australian standards) and with not a very challenging surf.
Appears very popular with the New Zealand beach culture particularly at Christmas and New Year. The town centre has an abundance of beach type restaurants and plenty of surf shops, all of which were very busy during our visit.

We stopped off at Whangamata Beach whilst we were driving up the coast to Coromandel Peninsula. What struck us was the peacefulness of the place, the beach was almost deserted when we visited. It was a great place to stroll on the warm day of our visit, definitely worth seeing whilst in the area.

Great east coast beach, and well knowen for the surfing, A safe boating harbour for water skiing and kayaking, with a new marina that opened in November 2009. Safe family swimming can be had at the estuaries.

Things people did not know is that you can walk out to the larger of the islands at low tide, plan your trip well so you dont get stuck though, you can then walk up to the top and get a grea view back, or just picnic over there.

Biggest supprise - hire some kayaks and head to the smaller island to the right and as you track around it there is a small sea cave, that you can entre and will come out in a lagoon, REMEMBER this is a conservation island and you should not land on the island but well worth the paddle.

A lovely long beach for swimming or surfing when the surf is up. Town feels beachy with a selection of surf clothing shops and cafes. Can cycle the streets or nearby bike park. Also Wentworth falls walk nearby. Nice spot for a holiday.

This beach is New Zealand renown as one of the best surfig and leisure beaches in the country. Extends from town inlet to river running on northern side of the township. One of the best Surf Clkub patrols in the country. When I was there a week ago the patrol flags were directly in front of thew club yet the patrols were walking the length of thge beach as people ignored the safety zone at their peril due to light rips. Safety conscious find this to be a safe beach for families.

Lovely Long Beach with a big estuary and some lovely private spots with benches to sit and enjoy the views. Toilets and outdoor showers could be found along the beach too.
