Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Didn't go looking around to find them all but the ones we saw were great. Good thing to do is stop and break a trip up with kids and check them out :)

We recently drove through Katikati and enjoyed seeing the many murals painted alongside many of the buildings in town.
You can stop at the I centre on the Main Road and purchase one of two books (NZ$5 or NZ$15) that contain map and images of the murals (and a few sculptures) you can look for. Most of the murals are within walking distance on either side of the I centre, on both sides of the Main Road. However, a few require a short bit of driving if you want to see all 53 that are listed.
Of those seen, we most enjoyed (39) 'Car Off the Road', (41) 'Overload' and (11) 'Central Motors' murals most. However, there are quite a few that we found to be interesting works of art.
The Katikati mural town is a creative use of space for fostering a local art scene and an interesting way to encourage a bit of tourism in the town. For those short on time, you can just have a look at some of the murals as you drive through town on the main road. If you have an half an hour or more to spare, this is an interesting activity to try.

If you are passing through Katikati take the time to stop for a while to look at the murals. They tell the history of the area and are really well done.

What a novel idea having murals all over the place in this small town. You might need some help and time seeing them all but they do have a historic background. They do bring a smile to your face so well done Katikati.

Katikati murals are great, so much history and nice artwork. Some are quirky and very interesting, some are delightful, all so different, and a few interesting carvings in the mix, with the public toilets representing to old bushmens huts.

Murals all around the town.. you can book a guided tour. It is an art and craft centre with a brand new library complex which is the hub of Katikati. Good friendly people.. Plenty of eating places.. You can walk around.

A small town Katikati has something unique and attractive for visitors as well as passer-by, a lot of murals. Yes, there are 68 Murals and the number is growing up, as informed by the staff at the Information Centre. Most of them are at the Main Road, but a few of them are also at the adjacent local roads. So, do a stop here while passing this small town, park and have a walk, and you can find most of them while at the same time enjoy the food from plenty of local restaurants along this road. However, the town's mascot seems a statue of man with his dog "Barry and Jack".
