Rose was the lady we talked to. She helped us with the name of a restaurant for our 41 st wedding anniversary. She rang up to see if they had room for us and booked a table. She also suggested the rail trail at Awakeri and the hot pools just around the corner.

Very good info and directions of things to do in the area. Handy to the walkway near the waterfront. Good parking, loos and cafes nearby.

Went in for specific information (which we got) and looked around. Well set out and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Gave us a few suggestions and we consider well worth a visit if you don't know a lot about the area

When you walk in, doesn't really have the wow factor. However they do have a room to watch DVDs on the area. Staff helpful but not overly...this may have been my fault as I was asked if I would like to watch a DVD about White Island..I declined...memory of so many people dying, it was not the right time..I think they took offence.
If run by the local Council needs a few dollars spent to up grade. Still recommend a visit to gather information and maps etc

Although I thought there was some useful information on the area and the person I spoke to was very knowledgeable there was a major flaw - I picked up a pamphlet on the Top 10 Things To See and Do in the area and the Number 1 recommendation was a once in a lifetime experience boat cruise to White Island.

Lots of info and easy to find brochures of specific areas. Really cool model of White Island with info room on history of Whakatane and surrounding areas. Lovely staff however both foreign which was unusual for an NZ info centre. Small souvenir setup but worth a look.

Never have we had an issue at an iSite. It is the first place we go every time we go to a new town. Everyone should go and get their info. for the area. They cant always answer everything you ask, but they certainly try their best. Would not be without them and their help. Good on you iSite . . . .

We were at a loss to know the best sites and activities in and near to Whakatane and visited the local information office. We set them the challenge 'what should we do in the two hours available'. They were immensely helpful and came up with some great ideas which we followed. A great day in the area was had by all. Thank you
