We stayed for 4 nights in the last week of January 2021 for the 1st here. The best weather so that was a plus. Our welcome at reception was equal to 5 star hotel, thank you. We we treated as if we had been coming here for years. Spacious sites and very clean. On setting up at our site Glen soon arrived and welcomed us and explained the layout of our site. This place is so professionally run. The beach is just over the dunes, kitchen and ablution blocks are spick and span and you kind of wonder does anyone use them. We wished we could have stayed a few more nights, we were not intending to come back here but the great neighbours we had who have been coming for years and the way this place is set up and run we will be back next year.

Easy to get to beach, between Edgecumbe and Whakatane, nice for doggies to run. Enjoyed the peace and calm day with the sea rolling in, there by myself.

First of all we went to the rough side of the river which becomes a dirt track and full of drift wood. Lots of local fishermen were there early in the morning(I guess for the best spot). On the other side of the river the road was better and there were lots of speed boats getting in and out of the water. The sand was a bit coarse but our visit was interesting.

Being from Tauranga, I visited Whakatane and popped in with my dog on the way back to this beach. Upon arrival, motorbikes and quad bikes zooming everywhere. Shame for the people relaxing. Parked up and a dog greeted me with a piss on the tyre and a hello in my window. I let my dog out. The woman then got upset because my dog was out. Put her on a lead. Went out to the beach. Got eyeballed by locals tut tutting about my dog, however, up on the shore there were so many dogs going free it was terrible. Just looked like a locally owned, this is my beach kind of scene. Yuck really. Back to Tauranga I gladly went.

Such a nice beach that is forever changing. With the Rangitaiki River entrance right there the dunes are forever getting pushed around so no walk is ever the same. Lots of driftwood, little ponds, steep dunes and different birds, a wonderland for a dog. Can easily push a pram along beach if you have the right brand and a great walk for your dog. Don’t need a lead so they can run free, perfect if they love the water.
