What a fantastic experience today's kayaking at Whale Island was. This was my second time kayaking with Kenny; he is an excellent teacher and inspires confidence in an occasional kayaker like me. He and Barry, the catamaran skipper, are a great team and they ensured a fun packed out on the water. What a privilege to see seals, dolphins, rays, a variety of seabirds, and to kiwi footprints in the sand, as well as the natural beauty of the island itself. Dipping our toes in a hot pool on the beach, created by Barry, added to the adventure.
Today was worth every dollar, and I'll definitely do the trip again soon. Thank you very much Kenny and Barry, and thanks too to Kenny's wife for the yummy lemon drizzle cake.

We tried to book this trip to Moutohora with Kenny and his team a few years ago but the weather hadn't been kind so we had to postpone. This time we booked last minute and it was perfect weather and so was the experience. The whole day was awesome. Great friendly and knowledgeble crew, a fabulous catamaran for the trip and the kayak experience by Kenny was sensational. Lots to enjoy, plenty of birdlife and sea life on the rocks. Stopped at a stunning beach and had a long swim and the KG team dug a hot spa in the sand for us which was wonderful. Kenny took three of us for a short excursion on the beach where we saw local Kiwi bird tracks in the sand from the night before. Then back in the kayaks to see seals playing in the sea near our boats and their pups on the rocks. Finally a serene sail back to shore. Thanks Kenny and the team for great day and to the people we travelled with who were awesome too, this trip was totally worth the wait, highly recommended !

Thanks you for taking time to post such a detailed and special review of your Whale Island Kayaking experience. Wonderful that you felt it was worth the wait - no two trips are the same and I agree that it was lovely mix of personalities and we were blessed with great conditions. A memorable day for us too. Hope to catch you soon - best wishes

Kenny's knowledge and experience opened up that gem and our group were swept away with the beauty of it all. Now we know why seals extend their flippers out of the water LOL. My thanks to Barry - Skipper for giving a future career pathway in piloting catamarans to my 10yr old son. Highly recommend this excursion to Kayakers and Nature-lovers!!

We had the best day kayaking to Moutohora Island with Kenny as our guide. We loved our catamaran cruise and the stunning scenery in this area, the playful seals following our kayaks, the beautiful sandy beach, the flora and fauna around the island, and the walk to the geothermal beach.
Kenny is an excellent guide, helpful and informative. He has a great sense of humour and he ensures that everyone feels safe and happy on the tour.
Thanks for the unforgettable day, Kenny!

Great fun trip to Whale Island! A beautiful spot. The catamaran was cool. Not too crowded either, a good number of people for the space and the whole trip. Loved the friendly and laid back atmosphere. Kenny also took lots of awesome photos and posted them through email afterwards the very next day! A trip I would definitely do again. (-:

We did a freedom kayak but we were well set up with a map and route where we would see the best wee views and potentially see some marine life! Was such a cool experience. These guys were great at helping us get into the water, and super easy to deal with. Wicked area, wicked people. Thanks so much

Couldn’t recommend this highly enough! We did a freedom kayak with our two kids (7 & 8) which was perfect - saw some great wildlife and for great views of the volcano. Kenny was exceptionally helpful...if you’re in the area give him a call and lend your support!

All our plans had fallen through and then I saw a flyer for KG Kayaks. I emailed Kenny, and he arranged to meet my husband and me for a morning kayak tour of the bay, complete with morning tea and fresh muffins! Kenny is a charming and engaging guide. We learned all about the flora and fauna and he told us legends about the islands. We wish we would have had an extra day to do the Whale Island tour. This was one of the highlights of our trip to New Zealand!!

Arrived and enquied about boat trip but was told the sea kayaking tour was about to leave if we wanted to do that. We were picked up and at the beach in 5 mins, bit unsure if we could do the 3 hour trip over some choppy ocean. We kept up and managed very well never felling unsafe or tired. The coast line is beautiful, stopped off at Cathedral Cove for fresh coffee, paddled back and saw an Eagle Stingray. The whole time was fantastic and we had a ball despite being a bit over weight from travelling and both well in our 60's. Gine it a go and enjoy.

Great to hear you're having a lovely time in NZ ! Unfortunately your review is in the wrong place. We are based in The Eastern Bay of Plenty, not the Coromandel. If you pass this way we'd love to get you out on the water ! Some home made baking to go with your coffee is guaranteed. Cheers KG Kayaks
