We took the ferry from Prien to the islands in Lake Chiemsee. You can either walk from the center of Prien to the ferry docks, about 20 minutes, or take the Chiemseebahn, a little steam train that leaves from the train station. Herreninsel is the...More

The ferry takes you to the Castle of King Ludwig, which is amazing. But you can also just get around the whole lake with the ferry in about 2 1/2hrs. Absolutely beautiful.

We walked from the main station to the dock and used the steam train on the way back since we were so tired from walking around the island. Small strollers were allowed.

Arriving in Prien am Chiemsee this Ascension Day, I wouldn't normally be one to pass up the chance of a walk, but, in deference to the weather conditions and my wife's aversion to a suntan, I chose to take the slower option of steam train...More

We drove to Prien port where we parked. There's a spa of some sort with a big parking lot and it costs about €6 for a day, so not bad. We then walked over to where the ferries depart and took the tour that allowed...More
