A hidden gem near gemstone beach
Feb 2021 • Couples
What great spot to freedom camp, new toilet's and rubbish bin but NO ewater. The beach is lovely with a very gentle contour making it great for swimming, climb up monkey Island at low tide for a great view of the beach. Liked it so much stayed 4 days.

Great place to freedom camp
Oct 2020
We freedom camped here and it was a really beautiful spot. The beach is lovely and you can walk out to a little hill at low tide which you can climb to get a lovely view of the bay. The beach is down the road from the Gemstone beach which has lovely coloured pebbles on it. It is also down the road from the Orepuki Cafe which has lovely food and coffee. Loved our stay here.

Best at low tide
Jul 2020
Great wee spot for a stop. Best to go onto the rock, called Monkey Island, at low tide. Toilet block nearby. Plenty of room on the beach to enjoy.

Great place to stop over
Feb 2020
Stopped for the night as I want to go to Gemstone beach in the morning. Beautiful beach and amazing sunset. Many more campervans than I was expecting as it is not on the main route. Still plenty of room though as long as people park considerately.

Lovely quiet and sheltered beach
Oct 2019
Monkey Island is a great spot for a family picnic. Can be a little over run in the evening with freedom campers but the rest of the day is normally quiet and peaceful. Very sheltered beach.

only if the tide is out
Dec 2018 • Couples
If the tide is out and you are there anyway, then it is fun to walk to the little island and climb the stairs to the viewing area. If the tide is in, you are out of luck and haven't missed a whole bunch.

Wonderful Beach Stop
Jan 2019 • Couples
Long sandy beach leading into a rocky point and Monkey Island. Lots of parking and easy to get to beach. Amenity block could be improved. January the water was surprisingly warm; infact better than the top half of the South Islan. The beach is used by many locals. Well worth a stop and a walk if not a swim.

A mixed bag.

Planned to stopover for the night at this beautiful beach but limited space available and what was free was littered with rubbish and dog poo. We stayed for a short walk along the fantastic beach, had a paddle in the surf then moved on to Colac Bay.

Picnic spot
Oct 2018 • Family
Scenic stop along this coast road with view of Monkey Island and the coast. Toilet provided and stretch your legs on a beach walk. Dirt track off highway but suitable for non four wheel drives. Can walk to Island on low tide. Viewing platform on Island.
